Kovu's Story

Kovu is a young, spirited, and curious little guy who is ready to see more of the world beyond apartment walls. At around 9-10 months old and just 15 lbs, he's the perfect compact adventure buddy with a big personality. Kovu brings a fun, energetic vibe wherever he goes and is looking for a home that will embrace his enthusiasm for life and help him channel it into positive experiences.

HISTORY
Kovu has spent his life so far living in an apartment, and while he's done well in that environment, he's more than ready to stretch his legs and explore new places, sights, and smells. His DOB is listed as 06/18/2025.

Kovu is fostered in Tri-Cities, in Eastern Washington. We share information about our dogs in postings based in other cities to improve their chances of finding a great forever home. He is well worth a road trip, and we encourage you to come and meet him before you decide he should join your family!

SOCIALIZATION, TEMPERAMENT AND TRAINING
Kovu is an outgoing, high-energy young dog who thrives around other playful pups. He absolutely loves having canine friends and does best with dogs who can match his energy level and don't mind a little extra enthusiasm in play. He can be a bit pushy when meeting new dogs, but with proper introductions and continued guidance, he settles in and enjoys having a buddy to romp around with.

He would do best in an active home that's excited to include him in daily adventures, whether that's walks, hikes, play sessions, or learning new skills together. Kovu is eager to engage and will benefit from structure, consistency, and outlets for both his physical and mental energy.

Kovu is still learning the basics of life outside of an apartment setting. New environments, experiences, and routines will all be part of his continued growth. With patience and positive reinforcement, he has all the potential to become a well-rounded companion.

He is still a young dog and would greatly benefit from training classes to help him build confidence, learn manners, and strengthen his bond with his future family.

It's important to remember: Kovu is still very much a young dog, and YOUNG DOGS ARE HARD WORK! He's full of energy, curiosity, and a little bit of mischief. He may test boundaries, get overly excited, or need reminders about appropriate behavior as he learns.

He may get into things he shouldn't, forget his manners, or have bursts of wild energy-that's all part of this stage of life. Please do not apply to adopt Kovu unless you are ready to provide the time, patience, and consistency needed to help him grow into a well-mannered adult dog.

HEALTH STATUS

General info
Kovu has just begun his vaccination series, has been dewormed, and is microchipped. He is pending neuter. He appears to be a healthy young dog and will likely remain around 15 lbs full grown.

ADOPTION
The adoption fee for Kovu is $425. Our process starts with an online application and may take a few days to a week to complete. We appreciate your patience while we do our part.

To apply to adopt Kovu, please complete our online adoption application at https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/HAWA-A-124 or email HearthfireART@gmail.com to request an adoption application form.

HART dogs live in foster homes, not in a kennel facility. To respect our fosters' privacy, we make our dogs available to meet adopters only after an adoption has been approved.

HART (Hearthfire Animal Rescue Team)'s Adoption Policy
All our pets are in private foster homes. HART does not have a facility. For this reason, we introduce pets to potential adopters only after the adoption application has been approved. Our process involves: # A detailed application form, which must be submitted electronically # An online background check # Reference checks (calls to your vet, landlord, and at least two personal references) # Interviews with all the adults in the home (and, if the pet is intended primarily as a child's companion, we talk with the child) # A home visit, conducted at our discretion by a member of HART or a trusted rescue colleague Most of our pets are located in the Tri-Cities (Kennewick/Richland/Pasco) in Eastern Washington, and we place pets only in homes within the Pacific Northwest. As needed we may arrange for a trusted member of our team to transport a pet to an adopter, at the adopter's expense. We do not ever release pets to a third party for transportation; we personally introduce every pet to their adopter. HART is a registered 501(c)3 charity. We depend on adoption fees and donations to continue serving our community. We do not have an office or facility, and our team is made up only of volunteers. Our entire income goes to helping animals.
