KOVU's Story

KOVU, 8 months old at intake, is a mixed breed dog taken in on 5/30/26. He's 1 of 11 dogs rescued from a field where they had been living for several months. Despite being shy with new people and new experiences, Kovu is actually the most outgoing of his pack and is the first to try new things. While the others are scared to step through the meet and greet door, Kovu isn't and has learned that it's okay to do so on lead and on his own. At first, he wouldn't venture out of his dog crate, but now he's ready to bolt out door! As he continues to work through this adjustment period, he obviously has some things to learn, not unlike any puppy or teen dog. The thing that most excites Kovu is treats. A smart cookie, he knows we keep a tin of treats on the lobby desk and that is the first place he beelines to when we take him on walks. So anxious to scarf a tasty treat, Kovu will counter surf the desk until he knocks the tin over! It's something he can learn not to do. In spite of living primarily among dogs without much human interaction, Kovu is gentle and loving to people, including kids. A 7-8 year old boy visited the shelter with his mom and Kovu greeted him calmly, licked his face, then went and sat down next to the boy while the boy petted him. Kovu's smart, playful (especially with his pack), friendly, goofy and at times, still sensitive. His adoption fee helps cover the cost of his neuter, vaccinations, worming, monthly flea and heart worm preventive, microchip and care while at CCHS.
