Kodak's Story

An important note for his adopters: Kodak communicates his discomfort clearly — if he's touched when he isn't ready, he will bite. This isn't aggression for aggression's sake; it's a scared puppy doing the only thing he knows to protect himself. He needs a family that can read his cues, respect his boundaries, and never force interaction.

Kodak's ideal family is one that understands he may need days, weeks, or even months to fully open up. He's never been shown what safe looks like. With the right patient, low-pressure home, he's going to blossom into an incredibly loving companion.

Kodak is an energetic, sweet-souled Aussie mix who came to us from an overcrowded shelter in urgent need and he's on his way to becoming someone's perfect adventure buddy.

At nearly four months old, Kodak arrived absolutely terrified of the world around him. It took almost a full week before he felt safe enough to accept gentle pets from his foster family without growling — a huge milestone he worked hard to reach. He's still learning that humans can be trusted and he tends to keep his distance and will run when he sees someone coming his way. His foster family has been building that trust slowly: gentle crate pets, hand-fed treats, and lots of patience. The progress he's made already shows just how resilient this little guy is.

When he is feeling comfortable, his personality starts to shine. Kodak is bursting with energy and absolutely adores other dogs — he follows his foster family's dog around like a shadow and would thrive in a home with a confident, playful dog to show him the ropes. He's a good eater, fairly well potty trained for his age, and already has a soft spot for toys and treats. His crate is his sanctuary — he retreats there when he needs to decompress, and that safe space has been key to helping him settle in.

If you are interested in adopting, please visit our website and complete an adoption application at www.elpasocountycanine.org/adopt

El Paso County Canine Rescue's Adoption Policy
Please bear with us as we process applications! We are working on changing our processes to function during the COVID-19 outbreak. We have had a big increase in people wanting to adopt (yay!) so it's taking us a bit of time to get through the applications. We work on a first-come, first-serve basis. You must apply for adoption before you will be able to meet with a pup. If you meet with a dog and decide to adopt, we can process your adoption right then and you can go home with your new family member! Thank you for adopting from us and saving our sweet dogs!
