Koa -SPONSORED ADOPTION 's Story

SPONSORED ADOPTION: This means that a very generous person has paid her adoption fee already, so an approved adopter will get her at no cost!

Meet Koa — Your Future Adventure Buddy!
Female Husky/Lab Cross ? Born June 2023 ? Spayed June 10, 2025
Koa’s story began on the northern streets, but she’s ready to write a new chapter—with you. This pretty girl is a mix of brains, beauty, and boundless energy, and she’s searching for a home that will love her for all her quirks and charms.

Sweet, Smart & Full of Sass
Koa is a gentle soul with a playful spark. She knows basic commands like “sit” and “lay down,” and she’s eager to keep learning—especially if treats are involved (and trust us, she LOVES treats). She’s got a husky’s voice and isn’t shy about using it to ask for attention or share her thoughts. She may gently place her paws on you, but it’s all affection, and she responds beautifully to positive guidance.

Social Butterfly in Progress
Koa has enjoyed leash walks with gentleman, King, and their shared curiosity made for a joyful stroll. She hasn’t had off-leash playdates yet at the shelter, but she’s shown interest in tug-of-war with people and played wonderfully with a volunteer’s personal dog in their yard. They even shared frozen rib bones with zero food aggression—just playful swaps and happy tails.

Built for Action
This girl doesn’t just walk—she sprints! Koa thrives on movement and would love a home that embraces her athletic side. Whether it’s hiking, jogging, or agility training, she’s all in. She’s strong on leash (think sled dog power!), but she’s learning to adjust her pace and shows promise with consistent training.

Mischievous & Marvelously Clever
Koa’s got a sparkle in her eye and a knack for problem-solving. She’s been known to “borrow” toys and treats from neighbouring kennels—always with a cheeky grin. She appears to have mastered the art of lifting the chain link gate latch and can scale a 4ft fence, so a secure yard is a must. Her cleverness makes her a great candidate for puzzle toys and advanced training.

Curious & Cat-Friendly
Koa has met cats and foster kittens with curiosity and gentleness. She mostly wanted to sniff and wasn’t quite sure what to make of these unfamiliar little creatures—but showed no signs of aggression towards them.

Road-Trip Ready & Bath-Time Brave
Koa rides well in the car, loves sticking her nose out the window to sniff the breeze, and even hopped into the bath tub at Pet Valu Meadow Lake like a champ (though she wasn’t thrilled when the water turned on—fair enough!). She skipped the dryer but enjoyed a towel rub and plenty of treats from the store staff.

Koa went on a road trip in the country with male Spirit in October/25. She can be a busy body that needs plenty of mental and physical stimulation. She loved the smells, swimming and being able to run full tilt down the path. She always came back when called and had to check in when she thought we were too slow! She was excited on the drive out but calm on the way back.

Pretty in Pink & Ready to Love
Koa picked out her own bone and proudly wears her new pink collar. She follows her person everywhere—literally jumping a gate just to see what you’re up to. She’s loyal, affectionate, and full of potential. If you’re looking for a companion who’s equal parts cuddly, clever, and comically mischievous, Koa might just be your perfect match.

Ready to meet your new best friend? Koa’s waiting—with a wagging tail and a heart full of love.

Regular adoption fee for dogs is $300; if the dog is too young for spay/neuter prior to adoption then a $300 post dated spay/neuter deposit cheque (OR PAD form) is also required - we don't cash this cheque but hold it until cheque date and proof of S/N surgery provided by the date on the cheque - typically when the pup is 6 months of age. Occasionally we adopt out particular animals at fundraising prices to help offset our vet bills, each fundraiser dog will be posted as such with the adoption fee noted. The adoption fee includes spay/neuter and rabies ONLY if surgery is done with our Meadow Lake vet; otherwise adopters are responsible to pay those fees at their own vets.

Use our online application form found at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1Q1Xw1ArXT3owIBuG8O25Ioqmx1_NWGgi9eXIhOO_0dg/edit?pli=1

Also Join us online at - www.facebook.com/mldhs
We upload our pet's video clips to www.youtube.com/mldhs1 - search there by name of the animal that interests you; you may often find more than one clip.

Meadow Lake & District Humane Society's Adoption Policy
MLDHS Adoption Guidelines PLEASE READ BEFORE FILLING OUT THE APPLICATION You must be at least 21 years old to adopt. PLEASE NOTE: We have, on occasion, had technical issues and have not always received adoption applications. If you fill out an application please follow up with an email to mldhs@sasktel.net to let us know you sent one in. You must be able to make a LONG term commitment to an animal - both emotional and financial. We do not adopt pets as gifts. You may pay for an animal for someone else but they must be involved in the adoption process and make the application themselves. For dogs: you must have a fenced in yard or dog pen if you live within town/city limits. All current pets must be spayed or neutered and go for regular vet care. For families with children under 5: we will not adopt certain breeds or particular dogs to you. Cats cannot be declawed after adoption. Dogs cannot have ears or tails docked after adoption. We know the personalities of each of the animals that we have in rescue. We understand what the ideal home and environment is for each of them and will make our decisions based on that information. Board policy is to not adopt to anyone living in communities where dog culls (shooting) is the method of animal control. We reserve the right to deny any application without a reason being provided. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE with any of these terms please do not apply for one of our pets. Our adoption process can sometimes take up to 7 -10 days. Please be patient as our volunteers have regular jobs and their own commitments. ADOPTION FEES: For Dogs that are altered, up to date on shots, wormed and started on preventatives- adoption fee is $300.00. For Pups that are too young to be altered - adoption fee is $300 plus a separate $300 spay/neuter deposit cheque. For Cats that are altered, up to date on shots, and dewormed the adoption fee is $80.00. For Kittens that are too young to be altered but are up to date on shots and wormed the adoption fee is $100.00 plus a separate $100 spay/neuter deposit cheque. All animals for adoption through MLDHS will be spayed or neutered prior to adoption if they are old enough. If the animal is too young for altering at time of adoption, they must be spayed/neutered by an agreed upon date and a post dated spay/neuter deposit cheque or pre-authorized debit form left with MLDHS. The cost of this procedure to the society is included in the adoption fee ONLY if done at our local MLDHS vet. You may use your own vet but surgery and rabies cost vaccine are then the adopter's responsibility and will not be reimbursed by MLDHS. Proof of surgery completed by the S/N date noted is to be provided to MLDHS and at that time S/N deposits will be destroyed. Vaccinations: Animals should have received their first shots while at MLDHS and if adults, Rabies Vaccination given at time of altering. If they have not received their booster before adoption, the adopter is responsible for ensuring that they receive it, at adopter's expense. A rabies immunization, if not received by time of adoption, is also the responsibility of adopter unless a puppy is being altered at our local vet, at which time they would receive the rabies at the altering appointment. As well, all dogs and puppies will be given microchips - this cost is also included in our adoption fees. Cats can be supplied with Microchip for insertion for an extra fee of $20.00 if requested.
