Koa's Story

Meet Koa
Koa is the kind of dog who quietly steals your heart without even trying. Equal parts independent thinker and loyal companion, hes happiest simply being near his people—lounging while you go about your day, always keeping a watchful, gentle eye on his family.

At around 60 lbs, Koa is a great medium-large size with a beautiful balance of energy and calm. Outside, hes an explorer at heart—he loves playing ball, following scent trails, and heading out on adventures. Inside, hes incredibly relaxed and well-mannered, often choosing the couch as his favorite spot and greeting you with a soft tail wag rather than over-the-top excitement.

Koa is very smart, observant, and thrives when given something to focus on. He enjoys using his nose and would do especially well with an adopter who loves walks, hiking, or enrichment activities that give him a job.

Hes been making steady progress with his leash skills. Koa can still get reactive when he sees other dogs or busy groups of people, but with space, consistency, and guidance, hes learning to check in with his handler instead. Because of this, he'll do best with an experienced adopter who can continue building his confidence and setting him up for success.

At home, Koa truly shines.
He is:
Calm and well-behaved indoors
Trustworthy when left alone (no crate needed)
Affectionate in a quiet, loyal way
Independent, but always chooses to be near his people

Koa can be unsure of loud or unfamiliar things like vacuums or fireworks, but he has already made great progress with patience and reassurance. Once he trusts you, his affectionate and devoted personality really comes through.

Koas Ideal Home:
A calm, structured environment
An experienced owner committed to continued training
A home without small animals (he has a strong prey drive)
A large fenced yard with access to space for exploring
Someone who enjoys outdoor activities and mental enrichment

Koa is the perfect blend of adventure buddy and easygoing companion. He doesnt demand constant attention, but hell always choose to be by your side. With the right guidance, hes going to be an incredibly loyal and rewarding dog.
If youre looking for a smart, thoughtful companion who just needs a little direction to truly shine—Koa might be your guy.

Learn more about Koas journey here:
https://brooklinelabrescue.org/blog/koa-2-black-labrador-retriever-mix-male-2-years-old-3766/

See Koa's adventures and tricks he's been learning while in foster care:
https://youtu.be/zfp9Ucz5wFk?is=QB2EyfI8o5WFQVXD

PLEASE NOTE: While this Lab may not be available for adoption by the time you complete the adoption process, other great Labs are always finding their way into our Rescue.

For more information on this Lab, please contact info@brooklinelabrescue.org.

If you are interested in adopting this Lab or any other Lab from our Rescue, please visit our Web site, brooklinelabrescue.org, for more information on our adoption process.
