Kitsu's Story
Located in Huntington Beach, CA

Kitsu is a handsome, loyal, and quiet male dog. He is a beautiful cream Shiba Inu with a sweet personality and a graceful, dignified, and athletic build. Despite his loyalty, he is not good with other dogs. He is a delightful 9 year-old who is crate-trained, house-trained, microchipped, and up to date on all of his vaccines. He is also neutered. He is a sweet dog who adores children and people, making him an amazing companion. He can be a bit wary of other dogs, which is why he would do best in a home without any other pets. His adopter must be familiar with the Shiba Inu breed and must be willing to love him as part of their family, as he will not do well outside or on a chain. He is good with all people, and a bit scared of men. (Prefers women).

Kitsu came from a breeding facility with 5 other Shibas from the home. We are unsure of what their lives may have been like before, but when we got him from the local animal shelter, he was covered in fleas, had severe flea dermatitis/hair loss, and at least 2 types of intestinal parasites. In our care, he is eating fish based kibble, responding to more frequent baths, and has been undergoing treatment for fleas and parasites. We would like future homes to continue on his flea treatments so that he doesn't revert back.

If you are interested in welcoming Kitsu into your heart and home, please contact saving Shibas Inc at the provided email address, or visit the provided URL to fill out an adoption application. His adoption fee is $150, and all money goes to a wonderful cause.

The Shiba-Inu is a primitive breed, and a living national monument in their native Japan. They are not very affectionate dogs, but are extremely loyal to their family/owner. Similar to the Japanese Akita because of their appearance and fierce loyalty, Shiba-Inus are a great breed to adopt because they are small-sized dogs that are smart and loyal.

They are also known to be escape artists and door-bolters. Adopters who have previously owned or are accustomed to this breed will be considered.

If interested in adopting him, please contact saveshibas@gmail.com.

Foster home notes:

2 week report. He’s the most enthusiastic kibble eater ever. Very housetrained - strongly prefers to poop and pee off leash in backyard. Loves playing in backyard and his walks. Very quiet, ok being alone, not destructive. Very playful and active during the day and is a Velcro dog following us around and then he crashes around 5pm for like 10-12 hours. He is still timid and easily startled by unexpected noise or movement. He will panic with new things and needs adjustment time to people and places but is pretty good when on leash. On dogs he seems curious and interested but if he gets close to a dog on leash he will sometimes bark a warning. My guess is he is not aggressive but needs a lot more socialization and slow acclimation. Lacks training and some basic manners but is very attuned to us and food so there’s hope.
