Kira (16)'s Story

Hello! I am Kira (16), a cute, medium-size, 2-year-old dog with short black fur (with barely noticeable brindle spots). I used to be a stray dog along with the rest of my dog gang when one day a kind lady started feeding us. Despite not having a car and living far away, she made sure to get us spayed to prevent us from getting pregnant and adding more homeless puppies to the streets. Finally, the lady took us in with the hope of finding us a permanent home. That's how she contacted the adoption program, and through it, I was also dewormed and vaccinated. It's been a whole year since then, but I don't lose hope in finding a new home! I am a cheerful, playful, and obedient dog. I currently live indoors and only go outside when I need to go to the bathroom. I get along well with other dogs and even cats. However, whenever someone speaks loudly to me I get a bit nervous and scared (maybe it reminds me of previous abuse). My favorite toys are balls and stuffed animals. I hope to find a loving and responsible family that will take good care of me!

Gente Por Los Animales's Adoption Policy

Once the adopter's information is submitted – name, phone number, address, email, and the name of the animal they wish to adopt – a volunteer from the organization will contact them within the next three business days, either electronically or by phone, to conduct an interview via video call in order to verify that the requirements are met and to complete the adoption form. If the application is approved, we will schedule the delivery of the dog or cat to begin their two-week trial period, allowing the adopting family to spend time with the animal and decide if they want to adopt them permanently. All animals are delivered dewormed, vaccinated, and sterilized. A recovery fee of 20 USD per animal is requested for delivery in Mexicali, Baja California. We can also cross the border to El Centro, Calexico, Heber, or Yuma, but in this case, it is necessary to place a microchip in the dogs, which incurs an additional cost of 25 USD. Eventually, we can transport the animals to San Diego or Los Angeles, but a 40 USD transportation fee is requested.
