Kira 's Story

Meet Kira, a 2.5-year-old, 50-pound Catahoula Leopard Dog who is beginning a new chapter.

Kira was returned to the shelter just a few days ago and is still adjusting to the changes around her. As she settles back into a routine, we’re getting to know her again and focusing on helping her feel safe, supported, and comfortable.

As she decompresses, Kira is already showing us some very sweet sides of her personality. She enjoys cuddling, is a smart girl who likes to engage with her people, and she’s a big fan of snacks. Despite her size, Kira seems convinced she’s a tiny lap dog and is happiest when she’s close.

Kira is still settling in, and we’re learning more about her personality and preferences each day. She has been reported to do well with other dogs and with children. As with all adoptions, thoughtful introductions are recommended as everyone adjusts.

Kira will do best in a patient, consistent home that allows time and space for decompression as she adjusts and moves forward.

Kira has been spayed, microchipped, dewormed, and brought current on vaccines and flea/tick prevention. She is heartworm negative and rabies vaccine is updated, so she is ready for an amazing, patient home.

Apply to adopt here:
https://orangecountyva.gov/159/Pet-Adoption-Foster-Care-Information
