Kingston's Story

Name: Kingston
Gender: Male
Weight: 9 lbs.
Adoption Fee: $325
Location: Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Email: bryorkiemom@yahoo.com

I HAVE A SEVERE MEDICAL ISSUE WHICH WILL REQUIRE SURGERY!

4/26/26 - Kingston was sprung the vet's office Friday and is, as you can see, living behind bars for right now. He has to stay calm for the next 4 weeks, but can walk around outside of a crate when on a leash inside after the first two weeks. We want to make sure this baby heals correctly and play in the near future. He has such soulful eyes and a huge heart. We are learning that he gets closer to woman quicker than men. The men have to earn his trust in the very beginning, but it doesn't take long when it is a gentle male that shows him love. Kingston and his foster family are counting down the days and hours until he is "released" to normal life. He goes back to the vet on Friday, May 8th, for an incision check/possible removal. Keep praying for him nightly because he isn't out of the woods yet. Thanks to everyone that donated to his vet expenses. We would not have been able to take him in and get this very needed surgery without you.

4/24/26 – Happy Friday from the King Everyone! The vet called and he was pleased with the surgery outcome yesterday to re-repair the hernia. Kingston did great overnight and he is being discharged now. With strict crate rest and a calm environment for the next 4-6 weeks, we are praying that this will be a success and Kingston will not have any additional setbacks and will to start to lead his normal doggy life.

Once we make it home, he will begin his life of calmness and just learn how to live a more sedentary day until recheck and release by the specialist.

YHR is proud to have been able to take this little King in and do what was necessary to correct a medical issue that never should have happened in the first place.

4/21/26 – When the surgeon examined Kingston this morning prior to surgery, he noted that the hernia had returned. Unfortunately, this is a risk of the Perineal Hernia Repair Surgery. He proceeded with the planned surgery for today, which was to tack the abdominal organs to the abdominal wall to prevent them from pushing on the hernia.

On Thursday, 4/23, they are going to do a second repair surgery on the hernia. We are praying that this will be his last surgery and Kingston will be able to go on living a normal and happy life.

4/20/26 - Kingston has been recovering well at his foster home. Tomorrow, he goes back for the second portion (Colopexy/Cystopexy) of his surgery to try to assure that another hernia doesn't reoccur in the future.

If anything, let this poor boy's journey be a lessen to anyone who doesn't choose to neuter their male dog. A Perineal Hernia is at 90% the result of NOT BEING NEUTERED WHEN A PUPPY! And the cost of both surgeries will total @ $4,760. Just saying, a neuter costs MUCH LESS!! Not to mention what Kingston is having to go through. Crate rest for a pup is not our favorite thing to do.

We will updated everyone after the surgery is finished tomorrow.

4/18/26 - Kingston was discharged from the hospital today and is resting in his foster home.
Many thanks for the wonderful messages of support and donations!

4/17/26 - Kingston is out of surgery and resting comfortably. He will get go home tomorrow, but is on strict rest and must stay calm. An additional surgery will be scheduled to try to make sure this does not happen on the side. Hopefully that will be in a few days and then he will start his 6 week recovery process. Long road ahead, prayers welcome, donations needed. ❤️❤️

4/17/26 - Kingston wanted to send a picture from the vet's office to let everyone know that he is doing well an waiting for the first portion of his surgery this afternoon. He is happy and letting everyone love on him there. We will update after surgery.

4/13/26 - We took Sully in on 4/12/26 from a local rescue because he has a Perineal Hernia which will require surgery performed by a specialist. We have an appointment scheduled for 4/16/26 for an evaluation and to get surgery scheduled.

Since he has only been in his foster home for 1 day, we will updated on his personality once we find out more about him. But for now, he is a sweet natured little guy
