King's Story

King came to us from our friends at Minneapolis Animal Control (an awesome organization). He has had a rough past (left in a hot car and had to go to an emergency vet for heat exhaustion and had wounds from a collar on his neck). King is a young, estimated to be 2ish years old blue merle male with big fluffy tail. He arrived to rescue weighing 80 lbs, with a need to lose about 10 lbs.

King has been living with a foster family that has spent a lot of time determining the kind of forever home he would need to be happy and successful.

King is an absolute love bug with his family. He loves to cuddle and play and he is very good with the children who live in the home. He can be skeptical of new people, and would benefit from slow introductions. However, after repeated meetings of familiar people that visit the home, King has become the happy greeter. King's fosters have worked very hard to help King be more accepting of having other dogs in the house and it has paid off; he gets along fabulously the with the young dog in the home and it's credited to having a slow introduction where people advocate for his need to not be rushed/pressured into accepting a new dog immediately. With that solid foundation in place, he and the other dog play constantly in the home. King is not a dog that will go out of his way to meet other dogs and very much prefers being with his people.

He seemed indifferent to cats in the intake home when he first arrived to ARM, but will chase animals that run, so cats might not find him quite as entertaining as he does. King adores the outdoors; loving walks and playing outside. His leash manners are still work in progress, but he’s eager to learn and please.

King does have the herding instinct, and will try to herd children running around so it is not recommended that he’d be placed in a home with young kids. King is housebroken and is crate trained, but he is not a fan of the crate. However, he also does have some separation anxiety (which can be common of dogs coming out of the shelter environment) and will get destructive, so for his safety, he does need to be crated when people or gone, or live in a home where someone is home all of the time. King is currently taking anxiety meds and is doing much better at accepting being crated when the family leaves the house. (It is his humble opinion that you being gone for 2.8 seconds still feels like 100 years, but it's at least a bit more tolerable. ;))

King’s ideal home would be a quiet home that doesn’t have many visitors and he would love a laidback, neutral canine companion that isn't pushy in the home. King loves his family with his whole being but does need to have a family that accepts that he’s not a dog that loves large social gatherings, but instead would much rather cuddle with you on the couch, and binge watch your favorite series with you.

King is being fostered in northern MN, north of Duluth.

The details:

Needs fence? Not required, but reliable recall will need to be established before going off lead.

Good with dogs? Yes after slow introductions

Good with cats? Will chase

Good with kids? You can find our application at www.aussierescuemn.com. All dogs have an adoption fee of $400 plus MN sales tax. We pride ourselves on matches that are awesome for both the dog and your family.
