Khione's Story

She arrived with a wound on her shoulder and a history that appears to have included conflict with other dogs. But spend a little time with this gorgeous white-and-tan Staffy and you'll quickly discover something wonderful: Khione's spirit is still completely intact.

She is a lover. She wants to be close to her people, she enjoys going for walks, and once she's settled in, she'd much rather spend her time getting attention than worrying about what happened yesterday.

What Khione Is Like:
- Affectionate, cuddly, and deeply people-oriented
- Happy to get out for a walk and explore
- Loves staying close to her person
- Curious and playful, once she feels comfortable
- Beautiful inside and out

Khione can be sensitive to some of the sights and sounds around her, and other dogs are definitely a source of stress. On walks, she can react strongly when she sees them, and introductions need to be handled thoughtfully. Given her history, she deserves a home where she doesn't have to navigate those situations on her own.

With her people, though? That's where Khione really shines. She seeks interaction and companionship and seems happiest when she has someone nearby. She's still a little hesitant about play, but we're betting that as she feels safer, we'll see even more of her personality emerge.

Khione's Ideal Home Looks Like:
- Kids around 10+, on a case-by-case basis
- Possibly another dog, with multiple careful meet-and-greets
- Someone patient who will let her confidence grow at her own pace

Khione has been through some things she never should have had to endure. But she's still here, still loving, still curious, and still ready to lean into a good cuddle. Now she just needs someone to show her that the next chapter can be a whole lot gentler.

---

Condensed Staff Assessment Notes: Khione initially appeared confident during our interaction, but I quickly noticed signs of discomfort, especially in her recovery time to certain stimuli. On the leash, her primary response was reactivity towards other dogs, often lunging at them. Indoors, she stayed close to me and was eager for interaction, although hesitant when I tried to initiate play. She had a curious but tense demeanor when meeting a new dog, likely due to previous infighting among the dogs in her home.

If interested in a pet at the Lycoming County SPCA, please fill out an adoption application. The application is available on our website: lycomingspca.org. We may require additional steps in our process such as a home visit, permission from parents, or other additional requests. We appreciate your patience as we complete your adoption. Before adding a new member to your family, please consider the following: Many pets live 10 to 15 years. How old will you be? How old will your children be? Is there a chance you could move in the next 10 years? Are you willing to restrict your choice of housing to accommodate a pet? If the pet is for a child are you willing to assume the care of the pet? Children must have parental guidance to care for a pet regardless of their age. Each breed of animal has genetic characteristics that need to be considered. Have you researched the breed that you are interested in? Are you financially prepared for a pet? Consider the following expenses: spaying or neutering, basic veterinary care, flea preventative, heart worm preventative, license, food, grooming.
