Khalesi's Story

Bureau of Dog Law Enforcement-Kennel License #2617

Could she do well with kids? Yes, with children around 14 years old on a kid-by-kid basis.

Could she do well with other dogs? We believe she would do best as the only dog in the home.

Has this dog lived with cats? Unknown. This beautiful 54-pound Terrier mix has already known love-she spent a long time in foster care, then was adopted-but she recently found herself back at the Lycoming County SPCA when her adopter could no longer care for her. She loves exploring the outdoors, pulling eagerly on the leash just to see what's around the next corner. Her favorite activities include chasing squeaky toys, playing tug-of-war, and showing off her tricks-she knows "sit," "down," and "paw," though she's so enthusiastic she sometimes does them all in a row!

What Khalesi Loves Most:
- Squeaky toys, rope tugs, and all things playtime
- Walks with purpose and plenty of sniffing stops
- Kind, confident humans who make her feel secure
- Practicing her tricks for treats (and praise!)

What Khalesi's Ideal Home Looks Like:
- Children around 14+, depending on the child
- The only dog in the home-she prefers to have her humans all to herself
- Unknown with cats
- A family that will match her playful energy and give her structure and love

Khalesi is a loyal, affectionate girl who loves deeply once she bonds. She may be a little older, but don't let that fool you-she's got plenty of pep in her step and so much joy left to give.

She's ready for a home that will finally be her forever-one with laughter, love, and maybe a squeaky pig or two.

---

Condensed Staff Assessment Notes: Khalesi is an energetic and playful dog who loves to explore. She pulls on the leash navigating outside and remained playful throughout her assessment. During handling, she excitedly tried to initiate play and showed no resource guarding with food. Khalesi understands commands like "sit," "down," and "paw," but tends to chain from "sit" to "down" without pause.

Playtime is her favorite; she enjoyed running around, playing with a squeaky pig, and engaging in games of tug with the rope toy. Khalesi interacted well with unfamiliar men, seeking their attention, but can be reactive in a home without proper introductions. She struggles with unfamiliar dogs, showing offensive/defensive behaviors such as growling and tension, indicating she would likely be best as the only dog.

We may require additional steps in our process such as a home visit, permission from parents, or other additional requests. We appreciate your patience as we complete your adoption. Before adding a new member to your family, please consider the following: Many pets live 10 to 15 years. How old will you be? How old will your children be? Is there a chance you could move in the next 10 years? Are you willing to restrict your choice of housing to accommodate a pet? If the pet is for a child are you willing to assume the care of the pet? Children must have parental guidance to care for a pet regardless of their age. Each breed of animal has genetic characteristics that need to be considered. Have you researched the breed that you are interested in? Are you financially prepared for a pet? Consider the following expenses: spaying or neutering, basic veterinary care, flea preventative, heart worm preventative, license, food, grooming.
