Meet Keeley

Keeley is medium energy, snuggly, and bonds deeply with her humans. She makes the cutest little piggy squeals and gremlin grumbles. She is super loveable and has a huge fan club in our rescue and with all the vets and techs and people she’s met! She also is *full grown* at just over 30lbs! She is a true pocket pittie and shouldn’t get bigger than 40lbs.
Her backstory is a bit sad. She was found in Amarillo, TX covered in makeup and foundation and emaciated and unable to put weight on her back leg. We pulled her from the shelter and have been turning things around for her in Colorado!
Keeley will be your ride or die. She wants to be wherever her people are. She warms up to new people quickly and loves getting a good belly rub, making excited snorts and squeals the whole time! She can be playful and enjoy long walks, but she also can be a calm couch potato - as long as she’s with you!
Keeley’s back right leg has a twisted femur - this could be something she was born with or an injury. She has reconstructive surgery in her future and will need PT but should have a good chance of mostly normal and active life. PT so far has made a huge improvement! She runs and jumps like any dog, but tires out and has a bit of pain, so we are planning her surgery so she can live the good Colorado life of short hikes, long walks, and playing with dogs.
Keeley does not do great with cats but seems like she would be good with kids.
Keeley loves to play with other dogs, but can be choosy about her friends, a bit bossy, and she struggles with sharing (she guards resources like food, bones, toys, people, and the couch). This makes sense given her history: she was emaciated when found so food, love, and nice things like toys are really valuable and she doesn’t want to lose them to other dogs!
She could thrive as the only pet in a household with dog friends to play with outside her home where she won’t feel the need to guard. She probably would not do well with too many dogs in an unstructured environment: at a dog park or doggie daycare.
