Kat's Story

Meet Kat – A Beautiful Girl with a Whole Lot of Heart!

Beautiful, intelligent, playful, and full of personality! Meet Kat, a gorgeous German Shepherd who, at 5 years and 10 months old, has captured the hearts of so many of our staff and volunteers here at UPAWS!

Kat is a very special girl with a wonderful spirit and an incredible amount of potential. She’s smart, curious, energetic, and absolutely LOVES her tennis balls!

One of our dedicated volunteers has spent a great deal of time getting to know Kat, and together they’ve discovered just how much she enjoys a good game of fetch! Armed with two tennis balls, he keeps the fun going by tossing one, then the other, while Kat happily races after them. Watching her run, play, and concentrate on the game is a wonderful reminder of just how bright and capable this beautiful girl is.

Kat is a German Shepherd through and through! She’s an intelligent, active dog who needs opportunities to exercise her body, challenge her mind, and put that wonderful shepherd brain to work. She’s not looking for a couch-potato lifestyle! Her ideal family will enjoy being active with her, whether that’s playing fetch, exploring the outdoors, enjoying interactive games, or working together through positive reinforcement training. Just as importantly, she’ll benefit from a calm, predictable home where she can learn to relax and enjoy quieter moments, too.

Kat will need a family who understands that she experiences the world with a little extra intensity. When she’s excited, anxious, or overstimulated, she sometimes engages in repetitive behaviors, including kicking up dirt and trying to catch it or digging at the ground. With patience, appropriate enrichment, gentle redirection, and positive reinforcement, her family can help her learn healthier ways to manage those feelings.

We strongly encourage Kat’s future family to take advantage of the available Tacomo training voucher and work with their veterinarian to determine whether additional behavioral support may be beneficial.

Kat previously lived with another dog, although they are not bonded and do not need to be adopted together. She has shown interest in other dogs, and thoughtful, gradual introductions will be important. Her compatibility with cats is unknown, although she has shown considerable interest in them, so a home without cats may be best. Families with children are welcome to meet her so we can help determine whether everyone is comfortable together.

What makes Kat so special isn’t just her beautiful face or those magnificent shepherd ears. It’s her personality, her intelligence, her enthusiasm for life, and the wonderful dog our staff and volunteers have come to know and love.

Kat deserves a family who will appreciate her for who she is, celebrate her successes, and give her the opportunities, patience, and commitment she needs to thrive.

Could you be the person who gives this beautiful girl the wonderful life she deserves?

Important Adoption Information

Kat is NOT included in the Fox Subaru adoption event.

Interested adopters must complete an adoption application. All human household members and resident dogs are required to attend a meet-and-greet with Kat.

Our goal is to find the best possible match for this very special girl and her future family.
