♡♡Update for Kara from Prairie Paws Rescue <br/>Kara had her appointment 2/5/2026 in Minnesota with the dermatologist. <br/>Kara has an inherited disorder ( mutation) associated with the silver coat color. It causes hair loss and skin barrier dysfunction that leads to infection and possible allergies.<br/>We have started treating infection and will reasses her itching after infection clears.<br/>Kara was prescribed an antibiotic, will be bathed twice a week with prescription shampoo and apply antiseptic/ barrier mouse daily with a recheck in March. <br/>Dr Globus commented on what a sweet dog Kara is. Kara climbed in her lap immediately when the doctor sat on the floor with her.<br/>With the diagnosis and treatment needed, Kara will still be on a MEDICAL HOLD until we can get more information at the appointment in March<br/>Kara is a female Dachshund mix who is 2.5 years old. She was surrendered to our rescue as her family had a lifestyle change and no longer able to care for her.<br/>Kara was living with another larger breed dog who was rehomed and is around other dogs her size and cats in the foster home. <br/>Kara's first vet visit went well, but she was a little freaked out for the first time in her life. Shots update and a vet examination done.<br/>**We are unsure of why her hair is so thin. Blood work was completed ( thinking thyroid) but everything was normal. Kara's is in a good quality food now and hoping this will help her hair come back<br/>Her medical work is completed including spay shots worming flea treatment rabies shot kennel cough micro chip and vet examination. <br/>The adoption fee is $200 + tax with an approved application..the pre-adoption application is available on the website www.prairiepawsrescue.com. <br/>Prairie Paws Rescue does not adopt on a first come basis but who will provide the best home suited to the pets needs
