Meet Kaia.<br/>Young adult. Spayed. Housebroken. Crate and manner trained. Black Sable Malinois<br/><br/>No one really knows how Kaia ended up living at a gas station in Tepic, Mexico, but we do know that we couldn't leave her there. She likely spent years having litter after litter, trying to protect herself while other dogs picked on her constantly. She was emaciated, had a broken leg, ticks and infections, and she still carries the marks of her survival in her unique left ear. But somehow, despite everything, she is still so happy and loving to all people.<br/><br/>Kaia is a Malinois--and all that means---she thrives on keeping her mind and body busy but, with those needs met, is content to hang out around the house and can be left alone with no problems. She WILL get you out to exercise and keep you safe while you do so--not really a dog park dog, she's a bit worried/reactive around unfamiliar dogs, preferring neighborhood walks and supervised off-leash exploring. She has a great recall and is totally in-tune to her person. Being a Mal, she is super-smart and trainable and is very motivated to please and learn and be a good girl. She loves belly rubs, hugs, playing with her toys, chewing on her bones and following her person around wherever that may be. She feels the need to sleep in her open crate and keep an eye on the house at night.<br/><br/>Kaia can be somewhat reactive to active dogs while out walking, but crossing the street gives her enough space to be okay with them. She does well with a slow intro and has settled nicely with her foster brother (she seems to like him more than he likes her). With all types of people, she is soft, affectionate, playful and loving. She is simply perfect when guests come over as she is well-mannered and loving. She never jumps up, follows directions, never chews on inappropriate items, does not bark unnecessarily, and has learned to wait patiently for meals and walks.<br/><br/>After everything she has endured, Kaia deserves a person or family who will finally let her be the magnificent, brave, loving, loyal Mal she was born to be. Some dogs break your heart because of what they’ve been through. Kaia is one of those dogs.
