Kaia Black Labrador Retriever Golden, CO

Sweet as pie and happy as a lark, Miss Kaia takes her calling as Your Best Friend seriously! She is about nine years old, 65 pounds and comes to us from her family of over six years when their circumstances changed and they could no longer care for her. Our girl will enjoy a moderately active home with few stairs as she has old knee injuries that are being well managed to keep her comfortable and active.

Kaia is a lovely family dog – she’s house trained, accustomed to free roam of the home, knows some commands, relishes treats, walks nicely on leash and is a happy calm greeter. Other dogs count Kaia as a welcome and playful friend; cats not so much. Kaia gets along with everyone young and old and lived with four children under five years old before joining us. Yes, she is “Saint Kaia!”
Her foster mom tells us:

“I like that Kaia does not act her age at all! Her spirit is much younger than her nine or so years. Medications for her old knee injuries are keeping her in good shape, so she is able to do pretty much whatever she wants to do physically. Kaia loves going on our long daily off-leash walks where she can explore smells. She also loves squirrel watching -- she'll sit under a tree all day as long as the squirrel remains in her sight.

“Kaia is a very sweet, loving dog who relishes being by your side whether you're on the couch or going on a walk. She is comfortable being with groups of dogs and would be fine as an only dog too.

“Kaia will be happy in a home that can give her lots of attention and moderate exercise. She has knee braces to wear which protect and support her knees when she is going to be exercising more strenuously than her everyday walks. She has daily medications and a monthly injection that keep her active and comfortable. Her new family will need to be able to recognize when she has overdone it and give her time off. She bounces back quickly but sometimes goes into ‘weekend warrior’ mode and does more than she should.
