Kai's Story

Two words that best describe Kai: sweet and friendly! She just needs time to feel safe and comfortable with new people. Kai is almost three years old and only weighs 38 lbs, she is the perfect size.

Some of Kai’s favorite things: frozen enrichments, chew toys like bully sticks and collagen chews , car rides, pup cups, ear scratches and belly rubs.

Once Kai feels comfortable in her surroundings she is the biggest goofball and very playful. Her favorite game is tug of war and she does love to win (it’s a great confidence boost for her too!). She also enjoys relaxing in the backyard on her raised bed.

Kai prefers learning new tricks and training games over long walks, but is controlled on a leash. It’s a great way to bond with her when adopted. She is smart and loves to use her brain while being rewarded. The girl loves her treats!

Kai is housebroken and crate trained, although she is not destructive when left loose in the home for short periods. She will be most successful in a home with no other pets and no kids, with someone that doesn’t have a lot of new folks coming in and out of their home. She really enjoys a calm environment.

If you’re looking for a darling little peanut head that will love you unconditionally and is a little derpy, Kai is your girl!

Happy Hearts Dog Rescue's Adoption Policy
1. Adopters fill out an Adoption Application. 2. HHDR will review the Application, check your references and speak with your Vet. NOTE: Adoption Application approval times vary, but we strive to approve applications with 72 hours. 3. Once your Application is approved, we’ll set up a meet ‘n’ greet and a home check (Post COVID-19: Home checks are performed virtually). 4. If the meet n greet goes well, then your potential new furry family member will come over for a play date. 5. Adoptions will require a three day trial visit before finalizing. 6. If all goes well and your adoption is approved, we will send you an Adoption Agreement for your review. 7. You’ll sign and return a copy of the Adoption Agreement along with the adoption fees. Your Adoption Agreement will include a customized list of the any remaining vaccinations and spay/neuter needed along with the time table in which you are required to get them. Once everything is in place, your new dog’s foster family will coordinate with you to get your new family member! * We do require all dogs in the Adopter/Foster’s home to be up to date on vaccines, current on heartworm prevention, and must be fixed. ** You must provide proof of heartworm preventative being purchased within the past 6 months to one year. We will not adopt to a home that can not provide proof their dogs takes monthly heartworm prevention. *** Young puppies that are not fully vaccinated must remain “paws off the ground” in public places (apartment complexes, dog parks, neighborhood walks) until 7 days after their final round of vaccines. **** If a dog is not fully vaccinated and they have not been fixed yet, HHDR will only allow a local adoption.
