Judy's Story

Because we are all volunteers, Illinois Doberman Rescue Plus only considers approved applicants to meet our orphans in our foster homes. Please read our eligibility requirements and apply on our website: www.ildoberescue.com/adopt. After an application is submitted, additional inquiries can email dobes@ildoberescue.com.

Meet Judy! Judy is an 8-month-old Doberman with a big heart, a curious mind, and an endless love for attention. She weighs about 55 pounds and is full of playful puppy energy. Judy is currently in foster care and learning all sorts of new things—including gardening (though she has been known to sneak a leaf or two when no one’s watching). Her absolute favorite thing in the world is playing with balls. If you’re in the kitchen and not paying attention to her, she’ll gently drop a ball at your feet to let you know it’s time for a game.

Judy is incredibly sweet, a little goofy, and definitely not camera shy. She’s very smart and is picking up on basic commands like “sit,” “drop it,” and “pick it up.” Her foster is working on “stay” and recall since her previous owner said she’s a bit of a runner. She walks fairly well on a leash, although she can get scared and jumpy in new environments. A fenced yard isn’t required as long as she’s walked on a leash (no e-collars, please).

Socialization is still a work in progress for Judy. She can be very anxious around other dogs and new people, so slow and patient introductions are essential. She has done well with her foster’s older female Doberman but is skittish around smaller dogs. Judy hasn’t been tested with children, and while she hasn’t lived with cats in her current foster home, a previous caretaker said she was scared of them. She’s a very expressive dog—vocal about her bones and toys, and she’ll bark or whine if another dog takes her toy or blocks her view of her favorite person. She even has a quirky habit of jumping on your back when she’s scared or wants your attention.

Playtime with other dogs should be limited and closely supervised, as she can get overly excited and a bit rowdy. She’s crate-trained and stays in her crate when no one is home, mostly for her safety and the safety of the foster’s other dog. While she’s not a fan of the crate and will howl when first put in, she settles down eventually. Judy is doing better with housebreaking every day, and she’s a respectful house guest—she doesn’t chew on shoes or clothes and listens well. She travels best in a crate in the car and does better if someone sits in the back seat with her.

Judy is a lovable, smart, and funny pup who just needs a little time and patience to thrive. She loves to snuggle, makes her foster laugh every day, and is ready for a forever home that will help her feel safe and confident. If you’re looking for a sweet, spirited companion with tons of potential, Judy might be the one for you.

Illinois Doberman Rescue Plus's Adoption Policy
The first step in meeting our adoptable animals is the breed/species-specific application at www.ILDobeRescue.com. We do a vet check, landlord/association verification, and home visit to ensure a permanent placement for our wonderful animals. Thank you for considering rescue! We look forward to working with you. IDR+ is a network of foster homes; therefore, we do not have a location to visit. The first step in meeting our adoptable animals is the specific application at www.ILDobeRescue.com for a Doberman, Plus dog (non-Dobe), or cat. Approved adopters are then directed to our foster homes.
