Jubal's Story
Say hi to Jubal!
So Jubal's story is a bit sad, all of it, not his fault.
Jubal was found as a "stray" in Castaic, CA and brought into the shelter back in Feb. 2023. He came to Washington in March, 2023, where he got immediately adopted, straight off of the transport van! His new family loved him at first sight and was committed to him right from the start. He was definitely a Daddy's boy. And sadly, his Dad recently died and he was with him when he passed and he cried and cried. Now, he isn't wanted anymore by his remaining family.

It was in his new home, where they discovered he has a very sensitive tummy. He went to the vet many, many times with xrays, blood work and antibiotics and nothing was every really found out. He does very well, eating boiled white meat chicken and white rice. He does well with Mother Hubbard dog treats. Also in his home, they found out that he's very sensitive to touch and will snap at strangers when approached. But his favorite thing is to snuggle on the couch with his people and play fetch with his squeaky toys.

Jubal must have had a hard life before being dumped at the shelter. He is still a work in progress, as he tries to tell us about his past with some of his behaviors and fears, but if he is willing to trust and try, so should we. He does take time to warm up to people, he seems to trust women more than men and does well with children, but because of his snap history, he'll need a home without young children. He'll come to YOU, when HE wants, all in good time and on his terms.

Jubal does not like being left alone for more than a couple of hours. He does have separation anxiety and that can be from being abandoned either on the streets or in the shelter. He wants to love and he does give it! He just needs that 1 or 2 special people to give him that chance and to be a part of a family.

Jubal, at this point, needs to be sedated when he needs his grooming, as he will snap at groomers. Maybe he just hasn't met the perfect one yet and will get more comfortable with time and trust. Again, someone must have really hurt him in the past. He does walk ok on a leash ( slip lead) but he won't let a collar be put on him. Something, that he needs to learn it's ok, as he needs to wear a collar with his name and number, in case he gets out.

He is protective of his house and yard. He seems to like the neighbor's girl dog, but not the boy dog. For this reason, a home without boy dogs is a must. Since being in his latest home, he doesn't have any dog friends, which is sad.
He will watch all the comings and goings in the neighborhood and will alert his family if someone gets too close to his domain. He doesn't like anyone coming to his door, so he'll need to be put into another room or a sturdy baby gate when answering a door. He does not like cats.

He is still working on potty training. He does well, when let out often and given praise and tiny treats. This will need to be continued in his new home and to continue his confidence in this.

He rides ok in the car, at first, he would get sick, but much better now. Who knows, that could be part of his sensitive tummy or him being anxious that he's being dumped again. He doesn't do well at a boarding facility, so if his new family travels, they will need to take him with them or have a pet sitter come to his home. And that's fair. Again, he's probably so fearful of being abandoned again.

Jubal is happiest when hanging out on the couch, being pet, playing with his squeaky toys and going on short walks. He will sleep in his bed, on the couch or in bed with you. He just likes to hang out with you!

Jubal is approximately 7-8 years old, a chubby 26 lbs ( he can lose about 5 lbs), he is neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated. He just had a full dental in October 2025 and was groomed at the vet mid-late December 2025. He breed is Lhasa Apso and maybe some Havanese. Whatever he is, he is beyond cute!

Jubal needs a stay at home family. A quiet and calm home. He needs a fully fenced yard, minimum of 5 feet. He should be the only dog, but maybe willing to try with a female dog. No cats, no kids. He needs someone that will be committed to him and let him know that he is safe, loved and he'll never be abandoned again. His coat needs grooming about every 8-10 weeks and to be committed to either taking to a vet with sedation, a groomer with sedation or to try a very, fear free groomer. Perhaps, his new family will be able to groom him at their home with time.
Jubal needs a chance. Another chance at love and commitment. At no fault of his own, he was harmed and hurt and he needs to be shown gentle and kind love. He did have that at his last home, but sometimes life can be hard when someone is grieving and sadly, Jubal is not part of this process.

If you would like an application, please email familytailsdogrescue@gmail.com. You can also call and ask for one ( not before 9:00am or after 9:00 pm) at 360-969-2014. His adoption fee is $300.
