Joyce's Story

Joyce is a female best guess Italian Greyhound/ Chihuahua mix that came into our rescue with her brother Royce. Her weight is about 10 pounds
The two had shown signs of "Littermate syndrome" showing signs of dominance and aggressiveness. Therefore they were separated into different foster homes.
Joyce is thriving since being separated from her brother.
Joyce has been out at several of our events to meet people and does well if not approached too quickly. She seems to like kids with gentle hands and calm body movements.
She gets along with other small dogs when properly introduced. It takes her a bit to settle in but once she does, she is very affectionate and attention seeking.
Joyce is quick to slip out doors and has attempted to get out of small areas of a 4 foot chain link fence where there are gaps. So the adopter will need a secured fenced area and monitor as she likes to climb 4-6 foot fences. So a tie out might be best for outside times

We took her to the vet for shots and guessing she hadn't been to a vet before as she was terrified. She had to be muzzled for exam and shots. Again to reinforce that she will need someone who has time and patience with her on new experiences.
Joyce is very agile and can jump high up on tables, countertops etc.
She is crated while the foster family is away from home or at work to keep her safe.
She will use potty pads if not able to get outside for potty breaks
All medical work is completed prior to adoption including spay shots worming flea treatment rabies shot kennel cough micro chip and vet examination
Prairie Paws Rescue does not adopt on a first come basis but who will provide the best home suited to the pets needs
