Joy - PLEASE READ FULL BIO BEFORE APPLYING! 's Story
PLEASE READ HER ENTIRE BIO!
We are getting many applications on Joy, but no one is reading her bio.

Joy is a sweet little girl with a bit of a spicy side. She absolutely loves people, kids, cats and male dogs of all sizes. However, she hates female dogs and is not afraid to let them know it, even if they are 3x the size of her.

We named her Joy because that's the energy she brings, plus it was the holidays when she randomly showed up at our rescue in December 2024. We checked the camera's and didn't see any cars dropping a dog off, just her running down the road and hanging out until a volunteer pulled up.

Joy is around 3 years old, she knows sit, stay and walks great on a leash!

The reason we've had Joy so long is she's been dealing with some urinary tract issues since she came in. We noticed she was peeing a little bit a lot and then blood started to be present in her urine. We thought it was a UTI, it wasn't. Stone? Nope. After many vet visits from our regular vet, a specialist in Summerville and NC State Veterinary school, tests and ultrasounds, we still can't get to the bottom of what's going on inside her little body. Her bladder is red and enflamed as well as her urethra. A cystoscopy was done at NC State, where they took samples and biopsies for testing and nothing came back positive. She went through 30 days of doxycycline to see if that would help, and it did a bit, but she was still having the occasional accident. Then she went on Prednisone for 3 weeks to see if it'd help her inflammation. At this point the vets assume that she has an "over active bladder" and her adopter needs to know that she'll need frequent potty breaks and time to empty her bladder, otherwise she will have an accident inside. Please keep in mind, she is at a shelter so there is no consistency on potty breaks. She's outside all day and is crated at night. When she is let out of her kennel and is told to go potty, she will squat and go. If she doesn't get time to go again, she will go inside and have an accident. So she needs to squat at least 2x to empty her bladder. She knows the words "go potty" and will listen. She also knows to use a pee pad inside in case she does have an accident. She rarely has accidents in her crate overnight now. Emptying her bladder is important so that an infection doesn't start, which is why she needs to be given time to pee at least 2x every time she goes out.

Obviously, whoever is interested in adopting Joy will get the full story and records on what's been going on with her the past year. Aside from her bladder, she is a very happy and healthy dog! She is extremely smart and will quickly adapt to the routine you get her in for her potty breaks, which will keep accidents in the home from happening.
