Jovie-special needs's Story
Meet Jovie!

Jovie came to us in mid-December with her mama (sunflower on our website) and siblings at just 7 weeks old — and as the tiniest runt of the litter, she had some growing to do. We wanted to give this sweet girl time to get stronger so we could better understand what was going on with her back legs.

Now at 5 1/2 months old and meeting with two orthopedic veterinarians we have learned that Jovie has been diagnosed with severe luxating patellas as well as a muscle abnormality in her back legs. After careful consideration, it has been decided not to pursue surgery, as it is a major procedure with no guarantee of improving her condition — and it could, in fact, make things worse. With no guarantee of a better outcome, we have made the choice to place her as a hospice puppy, where her comfort, happiness, and quality of life will always come first. Jovie may not walk like a “typical” pup — she’s decided hopping is far more efficient, but let us tell you... it does not slow her down. This girl can zoom with the best of them and isn’t lacking in speed or spirit.

Jovie loves:†̈Being outside†̈Playing with other dogs†̈Toys and bones†̈All the normal puppy fun

She’s still very much a puppy and working on her manners — potty training and leash training are both in progress. She does wonderfully in her crate and sleeps through the night like a champ. She’s food motivated, eager to learn, and has recently discovered her voice — so she would not be a great fit for apartment living. She also would benefit from a home with carpet and minimal stairs or someone who could carry her.

She is up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, microchipped, and spayed . She is ready for a family who sees her resilience as the gift that it is and is committed to giving her all the love she deserves.

If you’re looking for a joyful, determined, slightly bouncy best friend... Jovie is your girl.
Her adoption fee is $400. If you can find it in your heart for a special needs girl, please don't hesitate to apply!

We must have an approved application to set up meet and greets.
