Her story has been an inspiration to everyone who reads it, and we are grateful we get to help her on her way to happily ever after!<br/><br/>Journey is an Australian shepherd mix with a long road ahead of her. The trickiest part is: she can’t see it. Journey was born with microphthalmia- a condition where her eyes never fully developed in the womb leaving her without sight. Her eyes are much smaller than normal and while she may be able to see shadows, she’ll never develop her sight. <br/><br/>This sweet girl may not be able to see, but it doesn’t slow her down one bit! She’s navigating life one brave step at a time — and she's looking for someone who will walk beside her with patience, love, and understanding.<br/><br/>Potty trained, crate trained, and quick to learn, Journey is a smart and capable dog who's already mastered a lot. She does well with dogs, cats, and older respectful kids, and thrives in a calm, structured environment. She is a medium energy puppy, and has the potential to be a working dog or a house dog depending on her family’s goals.<br/><br/>Journey's story has been a hard one. Journey was taken from her litter far too young, and missed out on critical social skills she would have gained from her mom and siblings. Because she can’t see visual cues, she’s learning how to communicate clearly — and has worked with an experienced trainer to provide her the guidance on navigating a world she can't see. Journey spent 8 weeks in a board and train and has come leaps and bounds with her training, but will need someone who is willing to continue her training with consistency and compassion. <br/><br/>Journey is NOT a dog we'd recommend for a first time dog owner due to her special needs. Journey would do well in a home with another dog— one she can play with who can help guide her behavior without overwhelming or scaring her. Journey gains a lot of confidence from another dog as she figures out how to interact safely in a world she can’t see.<br/><br/>This girl has so much potential, and she’s already come so far.
