Josta's Story

Meet Josta!

A 44lb, 3-year-old, APBT mix who was surrendered to the shelter no fault of her own. According to her previous owner, she is both house trained and crate trained, which gives her a great foundation for settling into a new home. Josta is currently undergoing treatment for heartworm and is on the road to recovery. The shelter team will be happy to talk you through her treatment plan and what to expect moving forward.

Josta has lived with children and did wonderfully with middle–aged kids, showing a friendly and playful personality. She also shared her home with another male dog and got along well with him. However, she may do best as the only female dog in the home, as she had some challenges with a female dog, including resource guarding. Because of this, slow introductions and thoughtful management around other pets will be important.

She has been around cats and was known to chase them, but she did not show aggression—just a bit too much enthusiasm. A cat-free home or one with confident, dog-savvy cats would likely be the best fit. Josta is a high-energy pup who will thrive with an active family ready to provide plenty of exercise, playtime, and continued training. She’ll especially benefit from some work on leash manners to help her become the best walking companion she can be.

We do all adoptions with approved applicants by appointment only. If you are interested in adopting, please contact us via FB Messenger or email us at jcasreception@johnsoncounty.in.gov for an application. You can also find one on our website at http://johnsoncountyanimalshelter.com/adopt/. Once an application is submitted and approved, we can set an appointment to meet the pet!
