Josie's Story

We are looking for a new home for this sweet 35# Mini Australian Shepherd, Josie. Our hope is to find an environment that truly fits her needs and allows her to feel safe, confident, and at peace. Her owners have had Josie since she was a puppy (she is now 7 years old), and the decision to rehome her has not been made lightly.

Josie is a deeply loyal and affectionate companion who forms strong bonds with her people. She is sensitive and intuitive, tuned in to the emotions and energy of those around her. She is happiest when life is calm, predictable, and she can simply be with her person — resting nearby while you work, exploring the yard while you garden, or lounging by your feet while you binge watch Netflix.

Josie will not require lots of exercise, as she’s a pretty easy keeper. She enjoys going for walks and she has participated in agility training in her early years, so would love to live with someone who likes training. She is eager to please and of course, is super smart. She gets a lot of joy out of play time with toys, and will entertain you with her antics.

Josie has not lived with cats or other dogs, so she might prefer to continue being the only fur child. We do know Josie is not suited to a home with young children. Her people have a son who is now a toddler, and with a new baby coming, the environment has become too unpredictable and overstimulating for her. Her new, forever people will hopefully not have human children who visit, but if it’s only occasionally, she could be content set up in a back bedroom with a chew treat, until they leave. When she feels overwhelmed or trapped she reacts by growling and may snap, so it’s clear she needs a quiet, low-stress home to be her best self.

Her owners love her deeply, and this decision is not an easy one, but it’s apparent Josie will be happier in a more relaxed environment. We are committed to full transparency and can provide all vet records. Josie has a couple of important medical needs:

•Diagnosed with IMHA (Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia) a year ago — she is now in full remission and has regular monitoring.
•Displaced ureter – well-managed with medication.
•IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease) – fully stable on Voyager Sensitive Stomach kibble + low-dose prednisone (5 mg daily).
•She has undergone food sensitivity testing, and results can be provided.

She is currently stable, happy, and comfortable when her routine is consistent.

Her future home should be willing to maintain:

• Her current food
• Her low-dose medication schedule
• Routine vet follow-ups 1–2 times per year

Her care is not high-intensity — just needs to be consistent. Josie is located in Olympia, WA

If you are interested in adopting Josie, please fill out the application on our website at: https://www.westernaustralianshepherdrescue.com/adoption-application.html.

We only schedule meet n greets after a completed application which includes a home visit and reference checks.
