Joshy

Here's Joshy! He is my foster and he is a really sweet boy. In some ways, he's a very easy pup. In other's he is the true definition of a rescue. Joshy was estimated by our rescue partners to be around 4-5 months old when he arrived- I would peg him several months older. He still has some puppy in him but definitely doesn't have the younger puppy tendencies. <br/><br/>Things that make him great!<br/>Joshy is potty trained. He has only had one accident in my house and he tried to tell me but I didn't pick up on his cues. He is fairly calm for a puppy- he likes to go out and race around the yard and play with my dogs for 10-15 minutes per day but otherwise will come inside and chill. He takes treats very gently, isn't jumpy (except when he first comes out of his pen, when we've been gone for a few hours), and is very gentle and sweet. He loves toys and can entertain himself with toys. He sometimes will try to chew things he shouldn't but listens when we tell him no. He absolutely loves my dogs and is very respectful of their cues. <br/><br/>Things that his adopter will need to be aware of:<br/>Joshy was not well socialized as a puppy because he grew up in a shelter/boarding. Because of this he can be shy with new people and is nervous of men. He will need a family that will work to socialize him. He's learning to walk on leash so will need a family that understands he might take a little while to get good at it. <br/><br/>Joshy's ideal home:<br/>Joshy requires a home with another dog- he gains confidence from them and loves them. The dog in his new home will need to love to play! Joshy loves to run and needs practice on leash- therefore a fenced-in yard that is attached to the home would be beneficial for both Joshy and his adopter. Joshy does very well with my 6-year-old daughter and did great with my 12-year-old niece. Because he can be nervous of new people, I would recommend a home with older kids or kids that are dog savvy and can give him space while he navigates new people and experiences. At least one adult female in the home will be required as he is nervous of men at first. He will need an adopter that understands he is a true rescue- although in many ways he's a very easy dog, he does need work on leash and socialization with new people and experiences. Lately it seems like a lot of adopters are looking for perfection and that they have forgotten the definition of rescue- I want to do my best by Joshy and ensure that his new home is committed to him and his needs and will be patient while he blossoms into a happy and confident dog.
