Joshua's Story

Joshua holds a record in our rescue - he's the longest stay shelter dog that we have ever saved: TWO YEARS in a shelter in California. We can hardly believe this sweet soul hung on for so long in a rural shelter where literally no one came to meet him. Shelter staff ADORED this sensitive, soft-temperament boy though and kept him alive until a positive outcome could be found. We are so happy to have saved Joshua! He's a really kind-hearted dog despite his misfortune.

- Approximately 6 years old. We don't know Joshua's exact age. He hasn't had a glamorous life so he has a little extra wear. His shelter records state 4 years old but we think he's a little older than that.

- 63 pounds

- Total momma's boy! He bonded quickly with his foster mom who is likely the first person to embrace him and show him love in years. He's sweet to her male partner too but always defaults back to her side. Joshua is shy with strangers but can warm up with a treat. He's a wallflower type, meaning he hangs back usually and is reserved but not aggressive with new people.

- We have not seen him with kids but believe he would be a gentle and safe dog. Because he sometimes startles at loud noises, a home with older kids would be best.

- Good with other dogs both male and female. We prefer a home with a female dog if there is another dog in the home. He loves to play with female dogs. With male dogs he sniffs and is polite and appropriate but just doesn't seem to have the same joy as when he's with a cute girl dog.

- Good with cats and is fostered with older kittens and adult cats. We will sometimes try to play with them if they instigate play. He will also nap alongside a cat.

- Crate trained and is in his crate sometimes for 6-8 hours while his foster mom works.

- Potty trained and is reliable with his potty habits.

- Learning to enjoy car rides. He will climb in on his own but he hunkers down nervously on the back floor board. He hasn't learned yet that car rides mean fun times. He does not get car sick. And he rides quietly.

- Not reactive on leash seeing other dogs or people. Walks pretty nicely on leash without much pulling.

- Playful guy who loves doing zoomies and has a joyous puppy energy but then can also be a couch potato. He's a great mix of fun and rest!

MEDICAL: Joshua has a lump on his front leg. We have biopsied it and done x-rays and it is not cancerous. It does not bother him. He does have a little arthritis in his joints and takes a joint supplement daily. Josh has a dental on October 20th at our vet that we will pay for. He has broken teeth that will need extracted. His mouth is slightly deformed and his bottom lip hangs down. It's unique and we hope someone will find his awkward pout endearing.

Joshua is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm tested negative, fecal tested negative, dewormed, and current on flea/tick/heartworm prevention. His adoption fee includes a free wellness exam at one of our partner veterinary clinics in Oregon City, Milwaukie, Portland or Tualatin.

$150 adoption fee

Fostered in Canby, Oregon

COMPLETE AN ADOPTION APPLICATION FOR JOSHUA ON OUR WEBSITE: WWW.AGAVEDOGS.ORG
