Jorge Shar-Pei & Labrador Retriever Mix Cincinnati, OH

Jorge is a 7-8 year old sharpei/lab mix. Jorge is a big teddy bear - he's so lovable and sweet and has the squishiest face! He loves car rides - even the car wash was fun for him! He also loves to play fetch and to go for walks. And he also loves to be lazy and be with his person.He was adopted from us as a puppy but recently came back to our rescue because he was too much for his adopter to handle. Jorge is a big guy - around 65 pounds - and he's strong - so he can pull you on the leash and could get away if you're not paying attention. But mostly he walks well on a leash, very slow and gently, but when he sees some other dogs, he sometimes needs to be redirected/reminded to focus and continue his walk or else he can be reactive. We put Jorge in training and he did wonderfully - he is a really good boy! He needs an adopter who will help him stay focused and be the great boy that he has shown us he is! He is very much a people pleaser. Jorge seems to be dog selective - in his prior home, he lived with another dog (a lab) and was fine, but they said when he would see dogs out on walks, he acted all tough and can be a lot to handle. That's when helping him redirect and focus has to happen. Jorge is living with several small dogs in his foster home and he loves to play with them! He sent him to a structured doggy daycare also and he did very well - he was a very well-behaved boy! We just think he needs an experienced dog owner who knows how to control big dogs and is willing to continue reinforcing the training we have done with him. Based on how well he is doing at day care, at training, and in his foster home, we think he can live fine with another dog, but we'd like to help with the introductions to make sure the dogs get off on the right foot! Jorge has not been around cats to our knowledge and we haven't seen him around kids but older kids would probably be fine - he's very people friendly but given his size and strength, we just want to be sure everyone around him can handle him safely. We are looking for an adopter in the Cincinnati area for Jorge so that we can help with introductions and have access to our trainers if needed.
