Jolene 0526's Story
Jolene (JoJo) Weimaraner Female 7 Years Old š Monroe, North Carolina Jolene, lovingly known as JoJo, is one of the sweetest dogs you will ever meet. She is affectionate, gentle, wonderful with people, excellent on leash, rides beautifully in the car, and has never met a couch she didn't love. She is also a dog with significant separation anxiety, and because finding the right home is more important than finding a quick home, we are committed in to being completely transparent about her needs. About JoJo JoJo came into rescue after living a life with very little socialization or stability. Since entering rescue, she has completed heartworm treatment, been spayed, received extensive veterinary care, and undergone months of behavioral rehabilitation. She has made incredible progress and is now healthy, happy, and ready to find her forever family. She is: * House trained * Great with children * Great with dogs of all sizes * Cat tolerant * Excellent on leash * Wonderful in the car * Good for baths, nail trims, and ear cleanings * Non-aggressive * Affectionate and people-oriented Important Information About Her Anxiety JoJo suffers from severe separation anxiety. This is not a dog that can be left alone for a full workday or regularly boarded at a traditional kennel facility. She currently takes: * Fluoxetine 40mg daily * Trazodone when left alone * Simparica Trio monthly For the first year after adoption, we expect she will need: * A high-anxiety impact-rated kennel when left alone * Trazodone administered several hours before departures * Consistent routines and structure The good news is that she has made tremendous progress. We have successfully left her loose in the home during evening departures for several hours with only her daily fluoxetine, and she simply slept until we returned. Morning departures remain much harder for her than afternoon or evening departures, and we continue to see improvement as her confidence grows. While we hope she may eventually require less medication, we cannot guarantee that. Any adopter should be prepared for the possibility that medication may remain part of her long-term management plan. Ideal Home JoJo would do best in a home with another calm, stable dog. She gains confidence from canine companionship and generally settles more easily when another dog is present. The exception would be a home where someone is home most of the time or plans to take her with them regularly. Because of her anxiety, JoJo is not a candidate for traditional boarding facilities. When her family travels, she will need either an in-home pet sitter or to travel with her family. Why She's Worth It The dog you get when you're home is absolutely amazing. JoJo is loving, loyal, affectionate, and happiest when she's with her people. She wants to be part of the family, join you on adventures, and then curl up beside you on the couch at the end of the day. She has worked incredibly hard to overcome her past, and we are looking for a family willing to continue helping her succeed. If you're looking for a sweet companion and are willing to meet her where she is emotionally, JoJo may be the perfect addition to your family.
