Joker's Story

Meet Joker, a three-year-old Belgian Malinois/German Shepherd mix weighing 60 pounds.

oker is an exceptionally smart, high-energy guy with the kind of working drive that makes Malinois lovers light up! This boy is not looking for a life of lounging on the couch—he wants a job, an activity, and a person who will keep his brilliant mind and busy body engaged.

Joker is highly motivated by both treats and toys, which makes him a fun and rewarding dog to train. He is excitable and can be mouthy when he gets worked up, so we redirect that energy onto appropriate toys. Because of his intensity and mouthy play style, we’re currently recommending a home without young children.

And boredom? Not an option for Joker! He is an escape artist when left outside alone without enough to do, so his future family will need to provide secure fencing, supervision, enrichment, and plenty of mental and physical exercise. He’ll thrive with someone who genuinely enjoys training and working with their dog.

Joker has done well with some dogs and cats, but he appears to be selective about his canine and feline friends. A meet-and-greet with any resident pets will be required before adoption to make sure everyone is a good match.

Belgian Malinois are intelligent, athletic working dogs bred for tasks that require focus, stamina, and a willingness to work. They often thrive when given structured training, physical exercise, and mentally stimulating activities. Without enough outlets, their energy and intelligence can turn into behaviors that are challenging for an unprepared home.

If the idea of a smart, driven, energetic dog who is always ready for the next challenge sounds like your kind of companion, Joker may be your guy! He has a huge amount of potential in the right hands and is looking for someone ready to help him put all that intelligence and drive to good use.

This pet is available for adoption on 6/25/2026 12:43 PM at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center.
