Joker's Story
Joker is 11 m old Rottweiler that was born with severe hip dysplasia ; Hips do not align properly and cause bone on bone rubbing and advanced discomfort. This abnormal motion leads to early arthritis and continued decrease in motion, muscle loss and more. We were able to perform a Femoral Head Osteotomy, which removes the head of the femor (potion that goes into hip joint), this helps decrease the at bone on bone rubbing, creates a false joint and hopefully eliminates pain for dog. Joker is in early weeks of rehabilitation with his amazing foster. His therapy requires daily range of motion exercises, daily short term walks and weekly water therapy (in a pool). Joker has had advanced amount of muscle wasting and will need to continue to strengthen his muscles to help him continue to support the false hip joint more. Jokers back has curved due to his hip discomfort and he doesn't walk properly. Joker will need to remain in his fosters care, unless a foster to adopt family is interested and available to perform his required physical therapy. Long term we hope that Joker will be able to gain muscle strength, and have a more normal range of motion of his legs, but there is no guarantee. Interested adopters need to be aware that though we are hopeful he will be great moving forward, he may always be a special needs, or be more prone to orthopedic issues.
