Joker's Story

Meet Joker, the community porch gargoyle and active member of the Old Meridian park neighbourhood watch team.

Perfect spring morning to watch the city go by! Joker’s favourite spot is high on the front stoops, which offers the perfect view of the neighbourhood. He loves to sleep in. Burrow under every blanket. The more the better. He loves playing with his toys, especially if you play keep away. But he drops it like a gentleman when asked. Walks like a champion. Ignores other dogs and humans with an easy correction. He lives to try to chase those mean city squirrels, though. We will see how the squirrel vs dog season pans out this year. Joker needs a family that has at least 1 other alpha dog and people who dogminds a dog directly on top of them. Responsible owners who will help guide him slowly and safely. He just needs to feel safe. All he needs is love and to feel safe! Are you that family for Mr. Potato Head? Applications can be submitted on the website www.adoptahrescue.org

If Joker isn’t your jam, there are so many pups needing homes. Fostering is so desperately needed!!! Ask me questions about fostering!

Joker is a 6-8-year-old APBT who is sweet; he loves deeply and appreciates everything. He thrives with nurturing and guidance and needs acceptance and respect. He feels safe when the people around him feel safe. Joker is good with all dogs and cats and has been around children and done well. I feel older kids would be best. He needs an active home where he is included and will offer comfort, snuggles, and cuddles. Affection feeds his heart. Joker is food and praise-motivated. Likes chew toys. Not destructive unless stressed. HE IS THE KING OF TUG. HE will fetch and bring you the toy, hoping to get anyone enhanced in play.

Joker enjoys the company of small, assertive, dominant dogs and tends to follow their lead. But he will follow any assertive dog. He is active but not hyper; he is the ideal blend of energy. He can easily handle a three-mile power walk but is also content with a simple stroll around the block. He loves warmth and human touch and responds well to loving words or a gentle comfort touch. While he is affectionate, he is not clingy unless encouraged. Joker loves everyone. He seeks approval. Companionship. Love and peaceful comfort for all humans.

Joker is fully vetted, neutered, microchipped, and healthy as of his last vet visit a month ago. He is heartworm and Lyme disease negative, and on heartworm flea tick prevention year-round. He requires quality dry dog food. He is sensitive, and any change can be weird for him but not impossible. However, his diet must remain healthy. Quality kibble is important. Joker is small but muscular. At max weight 46 pounds ideally 44. He is ripped by nature. Agile. Smart. His off-leash recall is 100%. His on-leash training is excellent, as well as his basic obedience. His biggest flaw is nail trimming but we have made huge progress.

Joker is fully vetted and comes with no surprises, along with a manual of guidance, support, knowledge continued training, and soon a new fitted muzzle that we are custom-ordering. His safety and best interests are our top priority.

Joker is house and crate-trained. He walks well on a leash, and we are actively working on basic obedience training and off-leash recall.

All Adoptions Include:
• Spayed/Neutered
• Rabies Vaccination: 1 or 3 years.
• All Age Appropriate Core Vaccinations Including Lepto & Corona. 1 or 3 years.
• Heartworm tested Negative.
•Receive monthly Heartworm, Flea, and Tick Prevention.
• Lyme Disease Tested Negative.
• Dewormed and Fecal tested Negative.
• All testing completed within 6 -12 months.
•All age-appropriate needs (blood work, dental, testing, and meds)
• Lifetime Microchip Registration includes free unlimited updates.
•Feed a quality protein diet

Adoption Processing:
•Adoption application review can take up to 3 weeks.
• A minimum of 2 Meet & Greets are required before adopting.
•A home check needs to take place.
• Out-of-state adopters are welcome at the adopter's expense.
• We do NOT ship any of our adoptable pets.
• Adoption fees are paid at the time of adoption
•No exchange or request for money is required before adoption.
•No payment plans.

AHRS Former Adopter:
• No adoption fee is required; a donation of choice is expected, encouraged, welcome, and appreciated.

Training is an ongoing process that needs to be worked on daily.
