Joey's Story
Joey is a very friendly, happy, and energetic 8 year old Keeshond. He is a big boy and currently weighs in at 23.5kg/52lbs and has just started a weight control kibble. He has bonded quickly with his foster mom and has learned the routine in his foster home. Joey is very smart. He can Sit, Wait, Lie Down, Shake A Paw, and Roll Over.

However there are some issues. First, he has been treated most of his life for allergies which seem to be well under control with an injection of Cytopoint every couple of months. Right now, his skin and coat are in very good condition.

Second, Joey eats things that he shouldn’t and he must be supervised conscientiously and constantly in order to keep him safe. If he cannot be supervised, he must be crated. Therefore it is imperative that someone be home with him during the day, every day, so that he doesn’t spend his life in a crate. He is always crated at night. Joey will eat paper and plastic and pretty much anything that will, if swallowed, cause him harm. And he will counter-surf. Smart guy that he is, he will only counter-surf when his foster mom isn’t looking so all surfaces in his foster home have been cleared and certain areas of the house gated off. Supervision is key because keeping this sweet boy safe is paramount.

The vet has prescribed an anti-anxiety medication for him that he has just started taking. We hope that this will help reduce his desire to eat inedible items.

Joey loves his twice daily walks. He is very happy to meet the neighbours and is extremely excited to meet other dogs.

*Please note: Due to the pandemic and border restrictions, it may not be possible to adopt dogs from Keeshond Rescue Ontario to the U.S. at this time.
