Joe's Story

Joe is a 4 1/2-year-old beagle looking for his forever home. He is crate-trained and working on house training. He is good with cats, other dogs and with kids. Joe is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and ready to become part of your family.

Here’s Joe!!
His foster mom describes Joe as “One of the best dogs I’ve fostered so far.” He is a happy, sweet, and calm beagle gentleman. His foster mom tells us he is quiet, mellow and owns a tail that wags constantly especially when he see his human companions. Joe is doing well with his house training but this will need to be completed in his forever home. He gets along fine with his foster Maltipoo brother and the feline companions in the house. Exploring in his fenced in back yard followed by a run and topped off by soaking up the sun are high on Joe’s list of favorite activities. Joe’s does a bit of barking but overall he is not vocal. His leash walking skills are OK but here again, these will improve when they are finalized by his forever family. As of now, Joe has not shown much interest in chewing inappropriate objects but he was caught once enjoying the corner of a carpet. Once corrected by his foster mom, this activity never repeated. While Joe is crate trained, he may cry or whine a bit when first placed into the crate where he is placed when left alone in the home. Joe quietly sleeps through the night keeping the crate clean and dry.

Joe may still become startled by loud or strange noises like a lawn mower of fireworks. Over time, this will lessen as he gets used to his new surroundings. He has also displayed some anxiety drool during car rides - here again, this will improve over time. Joe has yet to pick out a favorite toy - he’s still trying to figure out what these objects are for.

Joe seems to be a very adaptable and should do well in most homes environments. An apartment, condo or free standing home with a fenced in area that will allow him to run, explore or bask in the sunshine could be a perfect place to his forever home. An additional dog and/or older child would also work out fine for this sweet little guy. If Joe seems like the perfect addition to your home, please complete a Dog Adoption Application to get the process started.

If you're interested in adopting Joe, please first read about our adoption process. Then, complete an adoption application found at www.happypawsrescue.org under the *ADOPT* tab. Thank you for your interest in adopting!

You may not know it, but you might have a BEAGLE to thank for your medicines! Beagles are used for safety testing of human and veterinary medicines for the same reasons that they make good pets; they're small and gentle-natured. Where does Happy Paws Rescue come into the picture? On a regular basis, research facilities have beagles that they release to us. It gives us and you a chance to give back to these sweet dogs that have contributed to the advancement of science. Please email us if you're ready to be a giant hero in the eyes of a little dog!

Thinking about adopting me? Here’s how:
1. Fill out an application found at www.happypawsrescue.org under the *ADOPT* tab.
2. Please allow 5-7 business days for us to review and respond to your application.
3. Approved applicants will be invited to come meet me at a scheduled meet and greet or adoption event.
4. If both you and the rescue agree that the dog you meet is a good fit for your home, you will fill out an adoption contract and exchange a small adoption fee. Your dog can go home the day of the Meet & Greet.
5. We generally adopt to families within a 90 mile radius of our home base in Piscataway, NJ but may consider farther distances in the tri-state region if volunteers are available. If you live beyond our geographical boundaries, we hope you will contact rescue organizations closer to your home.

Our Mission
To apply for a cat or dog, visit our website at www.happypawsrescue.org. We specialize in the rescue of dogs and cats from high-kill shelters where the prospect of permanent placement is unlikely. We also serve as an educational resource for the public regarding the prevention of cruelty to animals, in addition to spay and neuter awareness to reduce the population of homeless and stray dogs and cats. By working with committed volunteers and veterinarians, we provide all dogs and cats in our care with medical attention and a safe haven prior to placement in their permanent, loving homes.
