Joe's Story

Meet Joe, a three-year-old Pit mix weighing 35 pounds.

Joe's story hasn't been an easy one, but he's ready for a fresh start filled with the love and security he deserves. He was owner surrendered after the devastating White Swan fire alongside another dog, and it's clear that life has been difficult for him long before arriving at the shelter.

Joe arrived underweight, with scabs across his body, scarring from what appears to have been a previously embedded collar, and a wonky back leg that suggests an old injury. An X-Ray confirmed our theory that he had a pretty severe injury that didn’t heal right and was causing him constant pain so we had to amputate one of his back legs for his quality of life, he is already feeling so much better thanks to that! Despite everything he's been through, Joe hasn't let his past define him.

What shines through most is Joe's incredible spirit. He's a wonderful medium size, friendly, sweet, and genuinely happy to spend time with people. He loves treats, already knows "sit," and is eager to connect with anyone willing to offer him a little kindness. From his demeanor, it seems Joe may have spent much of his life as the underdog, often giving way to other dogs instead of competing with them.

Now it's Joe's turn to be the one who's cared for. He deserves a family who will help him regain a healthy weight, continue his healing, and show him that his best days are still ahead. In return, you'll gain a loyal companion whose resilience and gentle heart are truly inspiring.

If you're looking for a dog who will appreciate every warm bed, every meal, every walk, and every act of love, Joe is ready to leave his difficult past behind and finally experience the life he's always deserved.

This pet is available for adoption on 7.28.26 at the Yakima Humane Society adoption center.
