Meet Jodie is MAGIC!
Six months ago JODIE’S life was pulled out from under her when she was surrendered to Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC). After her elderly humans could no longer care for her, the extended family did the right thing by bringing her to our city shelter to give her up, and share valuable information about her. JODIE wears all the signs of once being a well loved family member, it’s obvious she was cared deeply for and part of her home. It is likely these memories that she has clung to, basing her trust of new humans on, and how she has survived.
Due to her severely deteriorating mental state in the shelter, JODIE’S case was urgent. If she was not pulled by a New Hope rescue, humane euthanasia was an unfortunate reality.
We saw through the anxiety and defeat long time shelter dogs can present with. JODIE has never behaved inappropriately towards humans. She openly seeks affection, attention and handling. JODIE, six years old and a petite 48 lbs., is smart, trained in basic obedience, nondestructive in the home and eager to blend in with her humans. After speaking more about her case with our friends Manisha and @boroughbredinbrooklyn, who have been advocating on her behalf for months, we knew we had to take JODIE into our #OneLuckyPup program.
These days JODIE sleeps soundly in Brewster, NY with her kind and generously hearted foster parents, Erika and Brian, a world away from the trauma, fear and concrete walls of the shelter. The dog just under the surface of her isolating terror has emerged to fully embrace an uncertain future, led by a total trust in her humans.
