Jewel & Bowie (BONDED PAIR)'s Story
Pug Rescue of New England (PRoNE) is a non-profit 501(c)(3), all volunteer foster home based rescue organization.

Meet Bowie and Jewel- The Ultimate Bonded Pair

Looking for double the love, double the cuddles, and double the joy? Meet Bowie and Jewel, an absolutely adorable, bonded pair who are searching for a forever home together. Bowie, a 9-year-old Pug, and Jewel, a 10-year-old Maltese, have spent their lives side by side and are ready to bring their sweet companionship to one lucky family. Not familiar with Maltese? No worries, they are an ancient breed who were pred for royal companionship, so aside from the hyper vs. Hypoallergenic thing, basically the same! Not really, but the main difference is in size and grooming requirements.

Bowie is a handsome 32-pound gentleman with a calm, gentle personality and an unforgettable head tilt that melts hearts wherever he goes. He loves being close to his people, happily following them from room to room, and can often be found carrying around his beloved Lamb Chop toy that he adopted from his foster brother before settling in for a nap.

Tiny Jewel weighs just 6 pounds and is every bit as sweet as she is small. This little ball of white fluff loves curling up next to Bowie or snuggling in a warm lap. When she's not cuddling, she can often be found enjoying a peaceful nap in her favorite cozy corner in her foster parents' bedroom. Her charming little prancing walk looks like she's dancing across the floor, and she never misses an opportunity to give kisses when picked up.

These two are wonderfully social and friendly. They get along beautifully with other dogs, enjoy meeting new people, and previously lived with young children. They are affectionate companions who simply want to be wherever their humans are. Bowie and Jewel have excellent house manners. They are completely house-trained, know to go to the door when they need to go outside, walk nicely on leash, ride exceptionally well in the car, and even know a few commands. Their foster family describes them as some of the easiest dogs they've ever had.

While they still enjoy spending time outdoors and the occasional walk, these two are happiest living the good life—lounging on the couch, napping in sunny spots, and soaking up affection from their people. They would thrive in a quieter home with a securely fenced yard where they can safely explore and relax.

Health-wise, Bowie receives monthly Cytopoint injections for allergies and may occasionally need treatment for ear infections. He is currently eating a homemade diet of ground beef, rice, and veggies. His former owners observed that he may have some sensitivity to poultry, so they eliminated it from his diet. He has a couple of pounds to lose so sticking to his portioned diet with minimal healthy snacks will help him meet his goal weight. Bowie's hearing is intact, but some diminished hearing was noted before and during treatment for an ear infection.

Jewel is doing well after treatment for Lyme disease and remains an active, happy little lady. She will be getting a dental prior to adoption which will help her feel much better. She has some loose teeth, so her picky food manners and cautious approach to treats may change. She still probably won't like anyone coming too close to her food dish but will give a stern warning if they do. Both have excellent mobility and continue to enjoy life to the fullest.

Grooming needs for them both are relatively straightforward. Bowie needs the typical pug care; furminating, fold care, teeth brushing, nails (you may need a pro) baths and special attention to his ears to monitor for infection. For Jewel, she will need daily brushing to ensure her coat doesn’t get matted, keeping the fur on her feet and nails trimmed, more frequent baths to keep her white coat glistening, tooth brushing, ear cleaning and routine trips to the groomer for haircuts. She does not shed!

Their foster family sums it up best: whoever adopts Bowie and Jewel will be "winning the lottery." These two are affectionate, well-mannered, easygoing, and deeply devoted to one another. Most importantly, they must be adopted together so they can continue their lifelong friendship. If you're ready for unconditional love, endless cuddles, and the sweetest bonded pair around, Bowie and Jewel are waiting to meet you!

ADOPTION FEE: $600.00

BOWIE $400.00 based on age

Jewel $300.00 based on age minus $100 non-pug discount =$700.00 minus $50 each for multiple dog discounts.

ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS FOR BOWIE & JEWEL

Can be only dogs or join a pack of mellow small dogs

Not cat tested, but did not react to the feline in the vet’s office

Fenced yard preferred

Quiet household with older dog savvy children age 10 and older

Commitment to meeting grooming needs of both dogs

Willingness to continue Bowie’s allergy and diet regime or pursue more holistic alternatives.

Meet all future veterinary needs including annual well visits and parasite prevention

If you are interested in adopting, your home situation MUST meet this criteria:

A vet reference check, dog walker check (if applicable), landlord check (if applicable), a phone interview and home visit will be conducted prior to approval.
