Jesse - Therapy Dog w/Pet Partners's Story

Jesse is a GSD mix from the Navajo reservation. He and his brother were pulled from Navajo Nation Animal Control prior to the weekly euthanasia that all impounded animals are subject to each Friday.

Jesse is 1 year old, 72 lbs, stands 25” at the shoulder, is long-legged and has a narrow build. He’s a very happy kid who is a little shy around dogs he doesn’t know but is used to living with other dogs and gets along great with his people and his pack. He is very healthy and has no special nutritional requirements or health concerns. Jesse's formal and informal training has been focused on becoming a well-mannered family member who can easily and comfortably integrate into a wide variety of family activities and social situations.

Jesse loves being active and gets excited if he senses a leash being picked up and maneuvers himself into position to make it easy to attach it. A typical week for Jesse may include some of the following: practicing and learning new tricks and commands, going on formal walks on the leash, going on off-leash treks through the desert to chase lizards and rabbits, going to the river to play, lots of hard playing with his brother in the yard, a visit to the dog park to make new friends, going in to pet-friendly stores to help with the shopping, and plenty of riding in the Jeep so he can hang his head out the window.

He also has some experience traveling and staying in pet-friendly hotels. He is an easy traveler and a gentleman in hotels. He has lots of experience walking amongst crowds, around traffic and noise, and is completely at ease doing so. He knows when he comes to a street crossing that he must first stop and sit.

Even though Jesse is only a year old, he is super chill and has a great temperament for a therapy dog. He passed his 20-part therapy dog evaluation with Pet Partners and has been able to make some new friends at a senior living home. Jesse loves receiving bear hugs and stands like a statue with his eyes closed as long as necessary if you wrap your arms around his neck and stroke his head. It means the world to him to hear what a good boy he is. Attaining a therapy dog registration was to help Jesse understand his potential and there is no expectation of his adopting family to continue to use him for pet therapy.

His diet is grain free and resembles a species appropriate diet that runs around 46% protein and approximately 5% carbohydrates. He gets excited about treats but is completely non-food aggressive and will completely skip a meal if he's not hungry. His drinking water is reverse osmosis purified.

Jesse is current for the core vaccinations of parvovirus, distemper, canine hepatitis, and rabies. BLC subscribes to and follows the recommendations of Dr. Ronald L. Schultz of the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine, considered to be the world’s leading expert on companion animal immunology. Jesse's recent fecal test shows negative results for internal parasites despite never having any of the standard toxic anti-parasitics in or on his body. A copy of his fecal test, vaccination history, and microchip information will be provided to his adopting family.

Jesse would like to be adopted with his best friend and brother, Jake, who has an AKC Intermediate Trick Dog title.

Please send an email to bigluckclub@gmail.com for questions about Jesse or to request a link to an online adoption application. The adoption process can include an adoption application, phone interview, reference checks, confirmation of living arrangement with yard, and copies of government issued photo I.D.’s. Out of state applicants are welcome and an adoption will only take place to an outstanding dog family.
