Jerry's Story

Update on adoptable Jerry

After spending more time with Jerry and talking to a few potential adopters, we are definitely requiring another small, playful, friendly dog and a fenced yard. This pup is still very skittish and runs when you reach for him. He is small, quick, and can be hard to catch. He cannot be let loose - he will run and hide. he has no recall. Putting him on a leash and walking him will be difficult (at first), which will hinder his potty training, confidence development, etc. A fenced yard with a K9 pal to show him the ropes will keep him on the right track with training and development AND will give him the confidence to grow into a cool pup.
Previous post (age and weight edited):

Meet Jerry!
Jerry is 9 weeks old and is ready for a forever family.
Jerry is a Maltese/Chihuahua mix. We are unsure how big he will get, but we guestimate somewhere between 12 -16 pounds. He has had his first set of vaccinations, is microchipped, and has been dewormed. He is working on housebreaking and is starting to figure things out, but he's definitely not housebroken.
Although he is super shy, he does come out of his shell, especially around other small, friendly dogs. He seems to be frightened of larger dogs and runs and hides when he sees them.

Jerry is sweet, but definitely has puppy tendencies - getting into mischief, barking, and finding things to chew on. Puppies are a lot of work!
Jerry would really benefit having another small canine companion to play with and a quiet home where someone is around a lot to help build his confidence. His new family has to be very, very patient so he can learn how to be a confident dog.

If you are interested in Jerry you can fill out an application at www.homesforhounds.org

Homes Fur Hounds, Inc.'s Adoption Policy
1. Once you have identified the dog(s) you are interested in meeting, you must submit an Adoption Application. You can find the application at https://www.homesfurhounds.org 2. Be patient. We occasionally have a high volume of applications, especially on puppies. 3. If your application is approved you will be contacted to arrange a meet and greet with the dog(s) you are interested in meeting. Whenever we have more than one applicant who is approved, we set up the meet and greet in the order in which the applications were received. 4. We are a small rescue group and do require home checks. Therefore, we only adopt to VA, NC and MD. Exceptions are made for medically needy or seniors if no qualified applicant is located in our adoption area. 5. We do keep applications on file for 6 months, so even if you aren’t selected for a particular dog, if you see another dog of interest, let us know and we will consider your application at that time. 6. Please don’t be offended if you are not selected to adopt. We try to match the dog with the BEST home for them. Just because you weren’t selected for a specific dog does not mean you can’t apply for another one. 7. Our adoption fee is $300.00.
