Jenkins - LOCAL's Story

Meet Jenkins -- the soft-hearted sweetheart just waiting to shine!

Jenkins' journey hasn't been the easiest. When he arrived at a southern shelter in late July, life as he knew it had suddenly changed. It was clear he had probably once known the comforts of a home, and adjusting to life in a kennel was overwhelming for him. He came in stressed and unsure of his surroundings, and on top of that, he was dealing with skin issues that made him feel even more uncomfortable.

But Jenkins is a fighter. With time, care, and plenty of love, he has been healing both physically and emotionally. He walks beautifully on a leash and though he perks up at the sight of a squirrel, he's happy to just keep an eye from afar.

And while Jenkins may be dubbed an almost senior, his zest for life says differently. Since coming to his northern foster, he's unleashed his inner snuggler and playful spirit. He loves to keep an eye on where his foster mom is at all times, unless he hears the flap of the dog door and then he's off to play with his canine friends! He's done great with energetic and one cranky female dog pal, reading signs from his housemates well!

Jenkins can be hesitant to warm up to people at first, which is no surprise given his previous circumstances, but once he trusts you best of luck getting him to leave your side (or lap)! He does well left at home without humans, even just chilling quietly on the living room couch while his foster humans work in their home office.

If you're looking for a sweet boy with a heart of gold, Jenkins is your guy. He's so ready to love -- he just needs someone to choose him as you can see here:
https://youtu.be/Zu-p-INvt1g?si=BlgApAs9ny6rHwh0

Name: Jenkins
Breed: Labrador Retriever/Crossbreed
Sex: Male
Age: 5-6 years (estimated)
Weight: 50 lbs
Spayed/Neutered: Yes
Vaccinations: Up to date
Heartworm: Negative on recent testing
Microchipped: Yes

BASED ON OUR OBSERVATIONS:
Good with Children: Older children recommended
Good with Dogs: Yes
Good with Cats: Unknown

Adoption Fee: $450.00

Location of dog currently: New England

IMPORTANT INFORMATION -

Paws New England is a foster-based rescue; our dogs reside in various locations throughout the South & New England.

Adoption donations cover pre-adoption veterinary costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter procedures when age-appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England if necessary.

Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher.
