Jemma is no longer accepting applications!'s Story

Jemma is a sweet and loving girl who is learning how to take on the world! Born around December 2025, she was found alongside her mom, and her siblings in Little River Canyon National Park in Alabama. She weighs just over 25 lbs.

Once she's assured there's nothing to worry about, she's all exuberant puppy! She loves rough-and-tumble play and then melts into a cuddle puddle when she's done. No matter how frenzied things get, she'll always calm right down for a belly scratch. She mostly wants to be close to her people during the day and is pretty chill, except when she's feeling mischievous or needs to zoom.

Jemma is smart and highly trainable, already responding well to positive reinforcement and basic commands like sit and come. She's about 80% house trained, she understands she's supposed to go outside, and her foster family has learned to watch for her cues. She has also proven capable of sleeping comfortably through the night in her crate, though she does best when she can be in the same room as her people. Crate training during the day is going well too. She loves her walks and is learning to love the leash!

Her confidence is growing in leaps and bounds- she meets plenty of dogs and people every day and is always eager to say hello. She goes from hesitant follower to curious leader surprisingly fast once she knows she's safe. She does have a few fear triggers (trash cans, certain doors, and some noises), but these seem less like long-term temperamental issues and more like a lack of experience with the world, something a little time and patience will sort out!

With a patient family willing to offer gentle guidance and another canine friend to show her the ropes, Jemma will absolutely blossom into an incredible companion!

YOUR ADOPTION FEE COVERS: Transport to Maine, age specific vaccinations, Health certificate, spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm/lyme/ehrlichia test, worming & martingale collar.

Adoption fees:
Through 6 months of age $450;
7 months to through 5 years $400;
6 years and under 9 years $325: bonded pairs are $500;
9 years and older $250: bonded pairs are $300

This dog is available unless it is marked as Pending, meaning Pending Adoption. This dog is in foster care locally, ONLY if Maine is listed next to the dogs name; otherwise, the dog is still waiting with our partner rescue for an adoption or foster home in New England.

All dogs have a current Health Certificate for transport. All imported dogs are quarantined 14 days prior to getting on transport. They've had annual heartworm tests and are on heartworm preventative.

FOR PUPPIES: PLEASE READ!!
Homes considering Puppies must be prepared for:
Flexible Schedules for Potty Training. Puppies can only hold urine for one hour per month of age. Crate Training for the next 10 months to keep them safe from chewing on everything in your home. Supervision with Children and Obedience training.
Socialization; both with new people, children and other dogs outside of the home.
Homes that want a well behaved dog, must be prepared to put the time, effort and costs associated to train a puppy. Well behaved dogs are not born, they are trained! Please do not apply for a puppy if you cannot or do not have the time for a puppy.

Applications can be found at: www.almosthomerescue.net
