Jasper

Jasper was saved from euthanasia within minutes of the deadline. After being abandoned at 6 years old, we couldn't let him take his last breath in a cold, dark shelter when he still has so much life to enjoy and love to give.<br/><br/>Since Jasper has been with us, he has been a complete sweetheart and snuggle boy. He has learned a routine very quickly and wants nothing more than to be with his person/people. <br/><br/>Jasper is very good on a leash; he's a bit excited at first, but you would be too if you were kept in a crate far too much (he had sores all along his tail and feet/ankles) and then spent weeks in a kennel at the shelter. He still listens and stays well controlled. When he's excited out on a walk, he does this sort of gallop; it's so cute! I've tried to get a video, but it's hard while holding a leash. <br/><br/>He is not picky and loves his healthy food and treats. He was a little skinny when he arrived and had some dry, patchy skin on his back, but it's so much better already. He is SO handsome, grey with a light tan subtle brindle and big round baby eyes that melt your heart! <br/><br/>I do think he is house-trained because he does not like to go poop inside the enclosure that he stays in, even though there is plenty of ground; he prefers to do it out on a walk, and is the type that will back his butt right into the woods/trees/bush to poo. It's so funny. <br/><br/>Jasper has done great with all of the other dogs; he gets excited at first, which may be overwhelming for some dogs and can cause some tension if the other dog is on edge, but as long as introductions are done correctly, he's done great. <br/><br/>We have one older, much smaller male dog who has been aggressive towards Jasper despite being fine with all the others (I think I know the reason; nothing that's Jasper's fault), so of course Jasper defends himself if needed, but most of the time tries to ignore him, and even then Jasper listened very well and stopped defending himself quickly and didn't hurt the other dog. I thought I had a foster home for the other dog, but it fell through, so since then Jasper has been kept separately from the others (at no fault of his own whatsoever!) so that he doesn't get hurt or accidentally hurt the smaller dog when defending himself. <br/><br/>I am going to try to integrate them again this coming weekend (9/26). I spend as much extra time with him as I can, he's a love bug, but I am anxious to get him into a home where he can be with his people and soak up all the love and snuggles. He's done so well while here; he's one of the dogs I would keep. He's a sweetheart. How he ended up in the shelter, I don't know. He was obviously cared for at some point, as he sits instantly for a treat without being asked, and listens and stays right with his person. <br/><br/>To learn more about Jasper, please email us or fill out an application.
