Jasper (Antioch)'s Story

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. One-year-old Jasper was found wandering the streets of Antioch. Animal control picked him up in a very busy intersection on 07/23/2026 and brought him back to their facility with the hopes of finding a microchip or even someone calling to look for him. Unfortunately, there was neither. When picked up, Jasper had 25 foxtails on him, with 2 in his left nostril and 1 in his right paw.
Initially, Jasper was very skittish and scared, but in the time he has been with us, we have been able to see this little boy come out of his shell. He is turning into the puppy he is supposed to be. His foster family takes him for a daily walk to the park and he is happy to meet and greet people along the way.
Although Jasper seems to like children, he has apparently had no training, so he does jump on people when excited. Consequently, he could knock over, or frighten a small child. He is food/treat motivated for training but is distracted easily. Jasper’s potty training is still a work in progress. He is crate trained and, in his foster home, sleeps in a crate at night.
Jasper is quite adept at darting through open doors and gates, so care must be taken to have him secured before opening a door. He’s slippery!
There are dog-savvy cats in Jasper’s foster home and he is OK with them. In fact, the cats sometimes engage Jasper in play. Furthermore, Jasper lets the cats sample food from his bowl. His foster family has not taken Jasper to socialize with other dogs much yet.
Overall, Jasper is a puppy, with puppy energy, but he is a love too. He does not seem to be a lap dog, but he will approach to be scratched, petted and played with. Does Jasper sound like the fun-loving pup for you?
