Janet's Story

Why choose me?
Are you looking for the ultimate couch potato companion? Look no further-- Janet is your girl!
This sweet little staffy mix is one of the most chill, laid back dogs I've ever taken care of. Her favorite past times include greeting you with wiggles every time you walk in the room (even if you've only been gone 5 minutes), laying on the couch, suntanning on the porch, rolling in the grass, and staring deeply into your eyes. She's very low energy, doesn't demand much from her humans, and lets you know when she needs to go outside to the bathroom (which is usually only twice a day). She's the easiest dog I've ever cared for, and she has so much love to give. She was initially shut down in the shelter when I brought her home to foster her, but she was very trusting and we were able to bring her out of her shell within a few days. She's shy at first, but with a little love she's willing to trust and open up. She does great with my dog and simply coexists near him, but she's slowly learning how to play with him. She's just still a little awkward and doesn't exactly know what to do, but she's gaining confidence enough to engage with him more and more as the weeks go by. Janet is heartworm positive, but she'll be receiving treatment while in foster care and should be ready to go to her forever home soon!

Here's Janet's report card so far:

- 38 lbs and relatively short, so she's the perfect medium dog size
- Housebroken, only asks to go out twice a day
- Walks BEAUTIFULLY on the leash-- no pulling whatsoever!!!
- Dog-friendly, mainly coexisting with other dogs and not overly playful but she's learning to ease into play
- Non-destructive even when left alone
- Crate-trained
- Quiet, no barking

Janet is a shy medium-sized girl. She was worried about all the barking surrounding her, but pets eased her worries, and she walked with me outside. It looks like Janet has had several litters in her lifetime, and I bet she was a caring mama. She's got that mama dog gentleness about her. She's wearing a collar patterned with hearts and a tiny heart charm attached to it. It's perfect for this sweet girl who wants to be loved. When it was time to go, Janet wasn't ready to leave. She preferred being with a friend away from the noise of the kennels. I don't blame her, but we slowly made our way back. Sadly, Janet has heartworms, so if she's not reclaimed, she'll only be available to rescues, foster, or foster to adopt until she's treated. Once her treatment is complete, she'll also be available for adoption.
You can read more about this dog and check out additional photos here: https://www.accgov.com/9482/Dogs

The adoption fees, shelter schedule, a description of the rescue and adoption process, and a list of included vetting can be found at https://athenspets.net/adoption-rescue-process.

This dog is available for adoption through Athens-Clarke County Animal Services, located at 125 Buddy Christian Way, Athens, GA. For the most timely information on hours, location, availability and how to adopt, call the shelter Mon - Sat from 11am-4pm or Sunday 12-3 (except holidays) at 706-613-3540 or go to https://www.accgov.com/133/Animal-Services.

Visit the shelter in person or submit an application online! https://www.accgov.com/9482/Dogs
