Jake's Story
This friendly, good-natured young hound mix is from a litter of ten puppies that were dumped on a remote country road in Adair County, Kentucky at just 13 weeks of age. Healthy but unvaccinated, most of them contracted parvo; all but one survived.

An expert vet team and the miracle of monocloidal antibodies made Jake a parvo survivor and we're so glad he made it!

The litter's daddy was part Treeing Walker Coonhound, a common breed in Kentucky, but their DNA test shows lots of other breeds, including Border Collie, Husky, and even Poodle!

Which explains why Jake isn't as "houndy" as some of his brothers. His coat is a unique fawn color, flecked with champagne - very striking - and his white paws, tail tip and chest blaze come from his border collie ancestors. He's a handsome and eye-catching dog!

Jake's personality is inquisitive, attentive, friendly, and playful. He's food-motivated and easy to train, and is working on gaining confidence in public places and when meeting new people. He still sometimes "alarm barks" when we go too fast and he's overwhelmed, but he gets better with every outing.

Jake's puppy energy is a kid magnet, but younger children make him nervous and cause him to bark! He does great around youngsters eight years and older, but we will set up a home meet-and-greet to ensure a smooth introduction.

Jake gets along with all kinds of other dogs - big, small, old, and young, and plays well with others. He would be great in a home with older kids, perhaps another dog or two, and a big backyard to play in. He's also very interested in cats, in a playful way, so a slow, supervised introduction would be recommended.

Jake is almost 10 months old, up-to-date on vaccinations, and current on heartworm and flea-and-tick preventative. He weighs 38 lbs, and his mature weight range will be 50-60bs, according to his DNA results.

He is housebroken, with regular outside breaks and supervision, and crate trained; in fact, he sleeps in his crate overnight and when his foster mom is working. He's a well-mannered young dog, and walks great on a leash with minimal correction. He'll be a great hiking, walking, or running companion, with his long legs and hound endurance.

This sweet handsome boy will make the right family very happy! Contact us to schedule a visit soon!
