Jake's Story

Meet Jake:

Jake is the kind of dog who doesn't give his heart away quickly, but when he does, he gives it completely. At about a year old and around 45 pounds, this chocolate brindle boy is right in the thick of his teenage phase: curious, athletic, full of personality, and still figuring out who he is and where he belongs.

He came to Show Me Your Pitties Rescue still working on his confidence. New people, new spaces, new situations, all of it takes a little time for Jake to process. He's not fearful in a way that stops him from engaging with the world; he's cautious in a way that tells you he thinks things through. He just needs someone willing to meet him at his pace, let him sniff the situation out, and earn his trust the old-fashioned way.

And when you do? Jake's whole personality unfolds.
He's an athlete, through and through. He loves to move, to play, to engage. He'll work his nose through a scatter-feed or sniff puzzle like he's cracking a case, and he takes ball time seriously, even if his technique is uniquely his own. Jake prefers catching with his paws. He has opinions about it. It's extremely endearing.

He's also deeply affectionate. He loves to give kisses, though fair warning: sometimes those kisses have a little extra enthusiasm behind them, more of a playful nibble than a gentle peck. He's not being aggressive; he's just still learning the fine art of appropriate greeting. And when he's really happy, really settled, his little tongue pokes out the left side of his mouth and just stays there. It's impossible not to smile.

Jake has all the ingredients to grow into a remarkably loyal, devoted companion. What he needs right now is structure, patience, and consistency from someone who understands that young dogs in their first year aren't finished yet; they're still being shaped. He'll do best in a calm but structured home with a securely fenced yard and a placement family who's experienced with active, adolescent dogs and committed to guiding him through that growth.

Jake isn't looking for a casual arrangement. He's looking for his person, someone who will believe in him while he figures out how to fully believe in himself. If that sounds like you, we'd love to talk about what a placement with Jake could look like.
