Jake's Story
As you can see from his photos, Jake is a sweetheart with a big smile! This sweet boy is 77 pounds and his racing name in the UK was Distant Jake. Jake is 3 years old, black with a cute white patch on his chest, and just retired in July!

Jake can be a bit timid when he meets new people, but once he has settled, he is the “sweetest loving lad” and enjoys giving and receiving affection. He also loves playing with toys and taking walks, so would enjoy an adopter who lives to spend time with him!

The reason Jake retired is that he has Symmetrical Lupoid Onychodystrophy (SLO), a fairly common condition that is easily managed. SLO causes dogs to shed their nails, but supplements can control this. At his last vet check-up, they found no new issues and felt his condition was well-managed. His vet notes from the UK were sent to American Greyhound and can be shared with his adopter.

Jake has been around small children, although they make him a bit nervous. Kennel staff in the UK believe he would get along with both cats and small dogs, but he has never been tested, so that may change once he can meet them.

Jake arrives September 17, but you can submit an application today! Please note: We primarily adopt across the Midwest, including Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky, Missouri, and surrounding states.

* * * * *

All of our available dogs are currently residing in foster homes, which means we gradually learn more about them the longer they are with us. We try to update profiles as we learn new information, but if you have questions about a specific dog, please ask!

Adoption fees include a routine vet exam/testing, spay/neuter, vaccinations, microchipping, martingale collar, and matching leash. Adoption costs help to pay for transportation and other expenses as well.

* * * * *

Not ready to adopt just yet? New foster families are always welcome and very much needed!
