Age and weight: 12 years old; 40 pounds<br/><br/>2. Spayed/Neutered or not: Neutered<br/><br/>3. Vaccination status (rabies, DHLPP etc) All up to date including Bordetella vaccination Oral. <br/><br/>4. Being wormed/flea/tick treated monthly? Simparica Trio<br/><br/>5. Any medical issues (when did he/she last have a vet check up?) I had mobile vet check up for Bordetella last month but without touching Jaco.<br/><br/>6. How does he/she behave around men/women/children/strangers/people on the street/other animals: Jaco is always on a leash so he doesnt really interact with people. And rarely barks but when he sees a dog that is his size or bigger then he is reactive - he will lunge so I am always prepare to give him two prompts - good boy which means calm down and settle. And we let the other pass then we walk. I now let Jaco regulate his own reactiveness but give him positive reinforcement and that tends to stop him.. He needs someone to assert that situation. Little dogs he doesnt really care about. There is one situation I do not like which is when a dog isnt on leash from the other side and comes too close to want to play or when the unleashed dog come out of no where and sniffs Jaco butt - Jaco reacts.<br/><br/>7. Normal daily routine (food/exercise): Morning 8am; out and sit under the sun then eats kibble breakfast. Then all day he is indoor sleeping (I leave the door open so the he comes in and out until 4pm when I can walk him for one hour in the park then eats a meal - 'better meal mixer' then sleeps again. So he doesnt have any interaction or any stimulation all day. He doesnt like to play with toys. He follows me around in the house. At night I let him out back yard one last time until he sleeps anywhere, sometimes, living room/ bedrooms so honestly, its been difficult to train him to be in the crate, as he is used to free roaming around the house. But I know it's possible because when he goes over to his 'board and train' facility because he has to.<br/><br/>8. Indoor or outdoor dog? (or both): Currently, he doesnt seem to enjoy the outdoors and he is mostly indoors in a single family home.<br/><br/>9. Level of training (what commands does he/she know/how does he/she walk on leash/reaction to seeing other dogs when on leash): <br/>Jaco has had obedience training 2023 through Primal Canine in Gilroy, CA. From there I continued to have relationship with a trainer and dog boarder, MS. Jaco stayed over at Ms to get more training when we took trips sometimes two or three weeks and M gotten to know Jaco very well. M moved closer to Berkeley, CA and Jaco was with M as recently as last November at her home/kennel where she manages a few other dogs and she manages to care for Jaco without a problem but did say she separates Jaco with others.<br/>When I walk him usual command is stop, go, sit, and if he goes too fast ahead then I say heel so that he comes back to my side but mostly I let him walk ahead until I see dog in front of us. Then I call him close to me and he knows that I will use the leash tighter if he tries to lunge overly or growls or barks. And that happens when other dog is in that mode too. I find it easier when I am composed and soft but assertive to correct him to tell him to sit and stay and again, prompt him by saying Jaco is a good boy.. then he just sits until I command him to walk. He is usually a happy dog and appreciates calm, nature walks.<br/>When feeding, he doesn't do this to me anymore but he was always resource guarding. I let him sit and wait ( pointing up with my index finger). He waits. Then he waits for me to say okay then he goes for the bowl.<br/>Now that he is older - I noticed when he was with my late ex-husband, his hind legs gotten weak. During my exs illness- he rarely walked the dog so I think he lost the muscle mass.. but with daily exercise he is better now and at one point I had to pick him up to load him on the car cuz he couldnt jump. That was a bit daunting since I thought hed bite my head.. although I know he knows not to do it his reactiveness I didnt trust. So I had a baseball cap on and looked down the cap facing away and he never bit me... he just needed to learn that I was trying to help him... He let me.. but lately, I just nudge his but and call 1-2-3 jump! And he does make an effort to jump up. <br/><br/>10. Any particular likes/dislikes (how is he/she about being handled/petted any sensitive areas, like ears, feet etc.):<br/>Generally he doesnt like to be touched by strangers. And for family members too, we know he is not the cuddling type. He does come and give me hugs when I ask but he will turn and puts his back to you and I hug him from behind... I know his sensitivity has always been his tail and butt since he was young...<br/> We have no problem touching or hugging him but I would be careful with it when you are a stranger. Also there is one thing I never understood but he has nipped a few guests we had and its always the toe(foot). But this only happened at home and after that happening we basically stopped having people over when Jaco was around.<br/>I think communication between Jaco and care taker is important, letting him know and understand your cues and direction is important.<br/>And never take his bowl from where he near by. he doesnt resource guard around us anymore but I believe the last reported bite that which unfortunately resulted in a civil lawsuit seemed like it was from a water bowl or some bowl that was in front of him and that distance and action was too close for Jaco with a complete stranger without my ex husband. It was my ex-husbands negligence that it is fair to say was the reason for that incident<br/>.<br/>11. How does he/she react to riding in the car/going to the vet/can he/she be lifted:<br/>Riding in the car no problem but getting in the car is not easy. M will often pick him up but he puts up a fight. So this one is tricky because Im not sure how he will act universally since he has a physical problem but perhaps he is more distrusting at first then trusting. Snack or food is a good motivator. I have taken him to the vet and its been a struggle. He gets really anxious because I get anxious.. I muzzle him but at the end, we have to synchronize with the vet. If collaborators are not as supportive then it fails and if they are supportive then weve had gotten vaccination with me holding his face away from the vets. He does not do well with medication that is sedative.. Ive tried but he acted not calm... at least I remember once and never tried it again. I recently used mobile vet just to get vaccination done. But that visit too I didnt feel comfortable with the ladies coming too close so they ended up giving oral pad and licked it off..<br/><br/>12. Has he/she ever bitten any other animals/people?: If so, what was the severity and was medical action needed? It was hands when he was younger - resource guarding and that is when I reached out to Primal Canine and also a few times with guests who came into our house and he was good until he nipped their toe. One was our realtor and he didnt have to go to hospital but my late ex-husband's niece came over and had her toe nipped. As far as I know most of these are not needing stitches but the areas have gotten infected - at least for me that was the case.<br/><br/>13. Any separation anxiety issues or other behavioral issues?: This I am not certain since M never reported as an issue. However, I am sure Jaco will react at first to anyone with distrust and he will be defensive which is his default position. Although, my late ex husband was his master/owner and he passed away when Jaco was there. And since then, I have been his care taker and he seems more mellow. His hearing is not good either. He used to bark at little noise but he doesnt seem to pick up noise as well either.<br/><br/>14. Where did you obtain the dog from and why are you attempting to re-home the dog now? How long have you owned the dog?: Jaco was purchased from Jindo Ranch from Texas. S, the owner purchased him from them and we have a certificate dated 2016. So weve had him 10 years. The reason for the rehoming is the owner is now deceased and there is no viable care taker.
