Jackson's Story

Meet Jackson: Handsome, Happy & Ready for Adventure
At just two years old, Jackson is a big, beautiful silver Weimaraner with an easygoing personality, an athletic build, and just enough puppy left in him to occasionally forget that his front end and back end are supposed to travel in the same direction.
He's a large boy, and an exceptionally handsome one, but what really makes Jackson stand out is his temperament.
For such a young Weim, he's actually pretty chill. Don't misunderstand us, Jackson is absolutely ready to play, run, explore and have an adventure. But he isn't constantly demanding to be the center of everything. He's attentive, smart, social, affectionate, and genuinely seems to enjoy simply being part of whatever his people and canine friends are doing.
Jackson loves other dogs and would make a wonderful second dog for a family looking for a companion for their existing dog. His play style and personality tend to fall right in the middle of the road. Around more dominant dogs, Jackson generally leans toward the submissive side rather than trying to challenge them.
Basically, he'd rather get along, hang out and have fun.
Jackson is crate trained, although if you ask him, he'd happily vote for having free roam privileges when appropriate. He loves attention, enjoys cuddling with his people, and definitely wants to be part of family life.
He's also athletic and curious enough that we'd love to see his future family take advantage of that potential.
Jackson doesn't just need a backyard. He needs a world to explore.
Think walks and hikes on wooded trails, interesting places to sniff, new sights and sounds, adventures in the car, and opportunities to let his brain and nose take in the world around him. He appears to enjoy water and likes going for car rides, making him a pretty appealing candidate for an active family looking for a dog who can come along for the fun.
For someone interested in dog sports, he may also have some untapped potential. Lure coursing, scent-based activities, or even recreational agility could give Jackson wonderful physical and mental outlets. He's a big boy, so he may not be destined to become the world's most nimble agility superstar, but he's well put together, athletic, and certainly has the enthusiasm to give things a try.
Jackson has not been tested around cats, so at this point we would not consider him cat safe.
We think he'd also do well in a family with children. Because Jackson is a large, young dog who hasn't quite worked out all the logistics of operating those long Weimaraner legs, we'd recommend children around eight years old or older. There's no sinister reason behind that recommendation. It's simply the very real possibility of an enthusiastic Jackson accidentally bowling over a smaller human while his front end heads east and his back end is still considering west.
What Jackson needs now is an active, engaged family who will continue developing the really nice dog that's already there. Give him exercise, enrichment, experiences, companionship and plenty of affection, and we think this boy has all the ingredients to become an outstanding lifelong companion.
He could be your hiking buddy, your road-trip copilot, your other dog's best friend, your couch cuddler, or maybe your newest dog-sport partner.
Most importantly, Jackson is just a really nice, social, well-rounded young Weim looking for people who will give him a full and interesting life.
If you've been looking for a handsome silver boy who's ready for adventure but doesn't necessarily need to manufacture chaos everywhere he goes, Jackson might just be your guy.

Adoption Application Request Interested in adopting? GLWR is committed to giving rescue dogs the best chance at a wonderful life. To that end, we ask you to know these things: 1. The application process is not instantaneous. We are all volunteers and we move things along as quickly as possible. We need to get to know you through the application process; just like we get to know the dogs through our intake process. It is in the best interest of all involved that this be done correctly. 2. We do not hold dogs. Approved adopters have their choice of appropriate dogs for their situation. If you see a dog on the website that you would like, we cannot guarantee that that dog will still be available once your application is approved. 3. Note to Families with children: Weimaraners are large, energetic dogs who need a ton of daily exercise. They can be great family dogs, but will think nothing of knocking down toddlers to get to the door, or snatch cookies from their hands.
